Re: New from Tacoma

You have to clear your mask every 30 sec because of that silly ear to ear grin! Get serious!
Welcome, and hope to see you in the green waters.

Re: Submerged buildings near White Pass/Morton?

I believe someone told me once that when Mayfield dam was put in there were people living near the mouth of winston creek. Just a guess though, I don't know if there is still anything there. Might be worth an exploratory trip.

Hydro AND vis

I have seen some conflicting info regarding the requirement for vip at the time of hydro. Back when (80's) it was accepted that a tank was in vis for a year after it was hydro'd. Now after my thirty year surface interval I got my tanks hydro'd and the LDS also charged me for the vis. Someone on scub...

NOAA divers manual

I'm interested in adding the NOAA divers manual to our library. Any of you care to post a review before I plop down 80+? I would appreciate hearing what kind of topics are included, and opinions regarding quality of information. Better yet, if you know anyone who has this on a shelf where I can flip...

Re: Another diver in the works....

Congatulations, I know you'll have fun with her. Our first grandson was born last July. We sure have been enjoying him. He lives in Longview also-maybe they'll be diving together in a few years! I hope! I haven't talked to Mom about that yet, I hope she's game! Enjoy. Hope the :vom: is over for you....

Re: Suggestions for a lake dive near Eugene

Well we drove by clear lake, but the forest service hasn't dug the snow out yet. They said that they would probably have the road clear by May. So if you're wanting to try this dive, thats the scoop. We want to go back, but I'll have to wait tilll may gets closer to make plans.

Re: Suggestions for a lake dive near Eugene

OOh that sounds collllddd! I am not the lucky one with the dry suit! Oh well, I'll appreciate it more when I get it! Nice-diver- how is the diving on the Oregon coast? Have you ever taken a trip offshore to any of the reefs? Many moons ago I dove the south jetty at newport. We weren't there long tho...

Re: Suggestions for a lake dive near Eugene

Clear lake might be doable if we head up there on the way down, but it would add 100 miles or so to the trip. How's the vis in dexter res? Melissa got a new dry suit and she wants to get a dive in a week til she gets the hang of it.

Re: Headed for Loreto tomorrow

No, no photos. We just purchased two almost full sets of dive gear, so there will be a recovery period before we can afford camera equipment. I would have loved to get some pictures of the sea lions, they were so curious, and would come and make eye contact maybe 2-3 feet away, video would have been...

Re: Headed for Loreto tomorrow

Loreto was awesome. The people were very friendly, communication was no problem. The folks are very patient with all of our gestures, improper pronunciations etc.. My spanish went from absolute zero to at least I am reasonably sure of what I am ordering for lunch. We found some very special friends-...

Re: Headed for Loreto tomorrow

Well we got back last night at about 3 AM, whew! The trip was great! We dove 4 days, three different islands. When we arrived, I stopped in at the dive shop-(actually not a dive shop, they are set up for guiding, not selling gear), introduced myself to Necky who would be our guide, and he began to a...

Will do. We're pretty excited. I've wanted to do something like this since I was a kid watching the Jacques Cousteau specials on TV.

Well, time to head out the door.

Headed for Loreto tomorrow

Well Melissa is a certified diver as of yesterday. We did our open water thing at Mikes beach with a gazillion other folks. Vis varied from 15' to not your hand in front of your face. The sea of cortez will be a real blessing after that! We won't have pictures unless we rent a camera or take a photo...

Hi my name is Bob. I live in Longview, I started diving way back in 1971 when I was 14. I continued to dive until 1981 when I lost all my gear to some.... well anyway I couldn't afford to replace it at the time. Now recently my wife and I got invited to Loreto on the Sea of Cortez for 10 days and I ...

I've been lurking here for a while. I'm getting back into diving after a very long break. I'm excited about it, and look forward to meeting some of you up in the sound. We live in Longview.

Great post, submarine. I live halfway between the sound and garibaldi so I have my eye on that spot! Welcome to NWDC. Do you have any advice on how to avoid interacting with the fishermen? Do you spot them before you submerge?

I had the same question recently, as My wife and I are traveling to Loreto later this month and will be diving with a SSI shop. We wanted to further our education, so I was curious what SSI was all about. I took a basic NAUI course in 1971, and followed that with an advanced course. Ten years later,...
