Re: Non Scuba subject.

I'm with you... tried them all. Started out with an electric, went to the Gillete Mach-4-billion-super-buzzy-trimix-bladed razors, and about five years ago switched to an old fashioned safety razor, good cream, and a badger hair brush. Never been happier. I got a nice, heavy, stainless Merkur Futura...

Re: Scooter crack

You CAN fly with it? I thought lithium batts are not allowed on planes? Sealed ones are allowed up to a limit. By sealed, I mean "part of a device", not loose batteries, etc. Basically up to about 25 g of lithium content... roughly 300 Watt Hours. Those can be checked. They're a lot more ...

Wow. Flashback weekend. Had to check the date on this thread to make sure it wasn't one from 2004 with the comments made :)

You're gonna die. Now can we all grab a beer and watch the GI "plums" video together in peace :)

Re: The GoPro Killer Has Arrived

"Water-resistant up to 30m underwater" isn't exactly a ringing endorsement for taking it diving. A lot of these housings just have issues with the springs on the button assemblies preventing their operation below a certain depth. It's less about leaking than it is operation of the camera....

Re: Antarctica bucket dive 2017

Sure. We used Oceanwide, before they were all commercial about it. We did a special charter, brought in gear in a shipping crate to Ushuaia, did a lot of self service things, etc. They've now formalized their diving in the years since, so it's more expensive, but much easier to do, as anyone can sig...

A search is your friend on this one through the board. A few of us have been down there diving... depending on what you want to do, it can be more or less complicated, and more or less expensive. I got out on the really cheap end of things... I think it was around $6000 p/p, but I have friends who u...

Re: OMS manifold service.

Frogkick has a service manual for the dive rite manifolds. It's well illustrated and will help. Most valves are very similar. Your OMS will be a lot alike. http://www.frogkick.dk/manuals/diverite/manifold_manual.pdf These are really easy to rebuild. The really essential part is the torque wrench. Yo...

Re: Rinsing gear.

Yep. As long as you don't turn the valve off. The potential for serious damage happens when you drain the tank. If you don't fill it up before you turn it on, you could be conducting an unplanned test of your temperature and pressure relief valve....and a lot of those aren't installed to code. Yup....

Re: Rinsing gear.

I'm surprised your hot water tank isn't full of rust and scale like mine ;) I would like to say I dive enough to drain it often enough that it doesn't get a chance to build up, but this last year, that hasn't been true. I did have to replace it a few years back, and I've been good about keeping thi...

Are there really no chemists here to fix the misinformation in this thread? The solubility coefficient of salt (sodium chloride) is virtually the same in water from freezing to boiling...yes, "slightly" better in water too hot to touch, but not meaningful for what you're trying to do with ...

I actually pour a glass of ginger beer and toss in a shot of fernet and a handful of ice. Great cocktail and one of my recent go-to drinks. On the hard cider - don't forg...

Re: Analyzers

I know you're not a 'breather guy, but for those of us that are: I end up recycling the old O2 cells out of the rebreather and into the analyzers, as long as they're still good - as in haven't failed prematurely. Since best practice is to swap rebreather cells at 12 months even though the manufactur...

Re: Analyzers

Depends. I have a nitrox analyzer I built from scratch (not just the "cut the wire" kind, but one that actually properly loads the O2 cell...) and I have a trimix analyzer (bought...) which is the heated wire in a reference cell with wheatstone bridge type vs. the acoustic model types. The...

Yes, one uses stainless steel or brass with oxygen, and one cleans it with the proper degreasing solutions (crystal simple green or blue gold, in general, in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendation.) Wet gauges use glycerin as the filling fluid; this is not oxygen compatible. You also don'...

Pretty good bathymetry here: http://www.washingtonlakes.com/TopoMaps ... ttitas.gif

I would be surprised, given the geography surrounding the lake itself if the clarity was very good, but you never know... Let us know how it is.

Yeah - had something similar myself. Had all my sinuses bored out last fall and the turbinates reduced in my nose... which has caused me a lot of adjustment -- even my own voice sounds funny to me, or did for about three months as it reverberated all around my head differently. It took eight to ten ...

keeping them separated will not hurt anything, and may help in the event of an extreme holding period. You should take them out every 3 or 4 months for a dip in seal saver IMHO. Definitely do NOT want to do that for silicone seals. Latex, meh, maybe. I'm not a fan of the stuff. About the only thing ...
