Re: Birthday gift for my 21 year old son

My folks did exactly that for both my brother and I. When my brother turned 21, my wife and I got him the "General Defensive Handgun" course through Insights (http://insightstraining.com/view_course.asp?courseID=146). He also went to the courthouse on his 21st birthday and applied for his ...

Re: Question on GPOs & how they eat crab... (NHZ)

Yes, thanks for the thorough description Alex. That helps a lot. My family enjoys coming down to the (not-a-car) marine center when we visit my parents in Port Angeles. It was very fun to watch the octopus in the tank envelope the crab in the "balloon of salaiva A" while we were there. Tha...

Re: 9mm composite?

Anyone that doesn't follow basic safety rules around firearms deserves a visit from Darwin. Agreed, but unfortunately, many of those who think they've got the most experience with firearms tend to have the most negligent discharges. There are many videos like this one, He says something to the effe...

Sounder, It would be my pleasure to take you to another adventure in the woods. Que creepy banjo music . . . We's huntin' buddies... Glocks are wonderful pistols. I could hit the broad side of a barn with one, but that is because I am can't get used to the grip angle. Have you tried a CZ-75 or vari...

Re: 9mm composite?

I figured since every trigger happy diver is going to chime in on this thread, I'm looking for a hunting buddy come hunting season. My hunting buddies have grown old to hunt, and others relocated to California. My only remaining buddy is my 21 year old son, who unfortunately is also very busy with ...

Re: 9mm composite?

If'n all you want to do is shoot, just get a .22. You can shoot all day for $20. We put several hundred rounds though my Buckmark and .22 1911 last night. Ray... you know better than to get a .22 instead of a 9mm. The proper thing to do is to GET BOTH!!! :partydance: RJ - I think the G-19 is probab...

Re: 9mm composite?

It's fun that opinions vary so widely. Richard, here is my no-hijack, no-BS recommendation. 1) find a range that offers rentals and try out a few different pistols. It's the cheapest way to find what you like. 2) There is nothing wrong with 9mm. I love it for many reasons. Low cost ammo, manageable...

Re: What cylinder do you dive, and why?

I dive HP130s and if you'd like to try them out, I have 7 you may pick from. I can do any rec dive around here on them while maintaining both enough gas for me AND my buddy should they require. Beyond that I have various sets of doubles.

Re: Question about ear pressure AFTER diving

As with many injuries, the swelling from barotrauma can increase over the first 24 hours. It really isn't unusual to go to bed after diving, and wake up in the morning with significantly worse symptoms. What you are describing sounds like very classic barotrauma, although the tinnitus is concerning...

Show off. Just because you get out of the water with more gas than you got in with doesn't mean you need to rub it in! :neener:

Re: What's your favorite backup light?

The Hollis is, by far, the tightest focused beam available. It's like a modified laser, which for signaling (the most important use of a back up light) is immeasurable. I, however, run Light Monkey 9w LEDs quasi-primary lights as my back ups too. They're not cheap but put out more light than any oth...

Janna, It sounds like what you're after from the pony bottle is to have some redundancy on dives where you're solo, or doing a survey that requires significant buddy separation. As long as we're going to throw out recommendations for entirely new systems of gear, the other thing you might consider ...
