SeaingGreen Makes NPR!!

Laurynn's "GPO Mama" video continues to be popular and is garnering more and more media attention. Congratulations, and thanks for including me in the effort... even if I have been reduced to "a guy named 'D'." NPR Article: http://www.npr.org/blogs/krulwich/2011/06/06/136999429/8...

I'm told both were father/son teams and the father died in both. For dads like me who have sons they look forward to diving with someday, it's rather rattling.

Uugh... "tis the season." Let's hope this year doesn't turn out like years past.

Stay safe.

I'd guess, but it's only a guess, that your positioning in the water is likely dislodging the gas to where you can burp it.

Don't they know the internet is forever. Archive.org has a capture from May 28, 2010 of their scuba page. I'm attaching a PDF of the manual I found.

Re: Tip's to keep me from looking like a dweeb... (THZ)

Class is helpful to keep from having the usual new gear issues. Make sure the scooter is trimmed out. Get the tow cord the right length. Make sure you're trimmed out correctly. I can guarantee you, that if you're dropping your knees, you're not going to have a fun dive. Practice some snorkle scoote...

Re: Scuba diver "wrongful death" law suit in WA

Yes, as much as we should stay away from "the $99 class is to blame," we should also stay away from "the bastard lawyers" stuff too. I imagine DSteding will prove to be an excellent source for information for us on this, as will the several other lawyers who frequent this board.....

I also have the family membership so that evac is covered for anyone in the family if we're
Ore than 50 miles from home (easy to do). Yes, even Dylan and baby Avery have DAN cards with their name on them.

Re: Tip's to keep me from looking like a dweeb... (THZ)

Honestly, I recommend taking a class. Many will say they're not worth it but then some of those who later take one quickly change their opinion. They're cheap and informational, and cover many of the instances you never thought about. I'd also suggest to take it from someone who either owns or regul...

Gas management saves lives and applies to all dives. Be weary of anyone who preaches differently. Thanks you Bob, Brian, Scott, and Peter who selflessly offer this free seminar. There is no excuse for running it of gas.

Hoping for some good news...

Re: Anyone been to the Channel Islands on a live-aboard?

I love night dives, unless two friends hijack me in my underwear and put me in the hot tub, and a third plies with me Crown Royal. Just saying . . . Oh sure... yeah, I "pushed it on you." I believe you finished your glass of red wine and expectantly held out your empty glass in a gesture ...

Yes, please don't touch the dens. It'll become quite clear who is doing it if they ever post video from particular dens such as the one Laurynn mentioned. It's just plain bad form, period. It'll be interesting to see if anyone actually does post images from a molested den. If so, they did the moving...

Sweet, glad to hear it. Bob and I found two new GPO dens at C2 today, one of which is in a very odd and unlikely location where I'm sure people swim over him daily without realizing. I just love how fortunate we are to have such cool critters in our "local mud holes." its not too unlikely...

Re: Anyone been to the Channel Islands on a live-aboard?

We typically do up to 5 dives per day, one being after dinner. That is a low-attendance dive for us as the theme party is often rolling by then, however there are still a number of people who do it.

Re: Anyone been to the Channel Islands on a live-aboard?

Yes, as Bob said, there are a bunch of us here who do an annual trip down there on the Peace Boat. The Peace is a smaller boat, which we charter and fill ourselves. We like to take between 18-22 divers, though the boat can hold up to 26 I believe. This allows for extra deck and bunk space for storag...

Re: In Water Recompression

Missed safety stop? Remember, a safety stop is optional... it's *extra margin* that isn't required. When it's required, it becomes a decompression stop and should be planned. There have been cases of people going OOG on recreational dives because they felt required to do a 3 or 5 minute safety stop ...

If I happen to go OOG while we are both kneeling on the bottom facing one-another... then yes, they've definitely got me covered. If we're swimming mid-water and I go OOG, statistically there is only a slim fraction of new divers who I believe could help me without the whole thing going sideways. Pe...
