ThThTh 9/3 Report

Hi Verrine, Cupronickel, Penders, Scubajess and I went to cove2 for ThThTh this week. Viz was fantastic, and the diving was fun. I got my camera back! We were hoping to see some octos hatching, but we only saw one hatchling, and we lost him before we could get a photo. If you happen to see them hatc...

So cool!
I haven't seen one in years.
I wonder if they're still around at 100' rock getting closer to breeding age?

Thanks. I'll confirm them with my camera once I get it back. I think I also saw one at ttn, we'll see.

They're much more colorful up north...

I'm in for diving tomorrow evening!
Anybody know the state of the octo nests?
I'm hoping to get my camera back tomorrow, so maybe I have a last crack at getting some hatchling shots?

Re: 25 dollars for what????

Let's find if the fee can be shared. If so people can post in the dive planning section the time and I'm sure there'd be plenty interested in amortizing the cost!

Hi
That does seem high. How does one reserve a night dive there, there are definitely some nice windows coming up there at night.

Underwater photo books

Hi I picked up several underwater photo books over the last couple months: Luminous Seas -- by Richard Salas. Richard is a photo mentor of mine, and this is his third book. He has an exhibit at the seattle aquarium right now too. Really nice, high quality book, a bit pricey though. It was shot mostl...

Wow, that's quite the initiation hazing. Welcome to NWDC Ryan and Scoobie. Hope you guys (at least those of you not moving to CA) stick around in the club. Seriously, the dive does have some ingredients for a good dive for sure. I've always wanted to try some of our better sites at night. Sunrise ha...

Hmm interesting! Never heard those specifics. Makes sense

I'm usually carrying a camera. Do the cave classes have specific tips about that?

Thanks!

Re: GPO egg hatching

Hey Derek! Got it, thank you! You got some good pics! I *think* your fish may be a pacific tomcod. I heard thru the grapevine that one of the popular-to-see octos in cove2 has died :( looks like before all the eggs hatched. Not sure of the state of the other(s). Has anyone visited the TTN octo latel...

Re: Emergeny procedures at night

so yes ... these skills should be practiced while using your lights, since that's what you'll likely be doing if you have to use them for real ... Good point. I haven't seen an emphasis on that in any non-cave class though. Most of us aren't cavers. It is not that hard but it definitely takes a cou...

Emergeny procedures at night

Hi How many people out there practice their emergency procedures during night dives? I've met many a diver who's never tried a night air share. It's always so tough with the lights dangling around and the harder communication. Any tips? I never had any formal training in it. It would be interesting ...

Re: Deception Pass

Let's hear a genuine argument against actually diving it at night. Underwater communication, orientation and emergency procedures (both under and above water) are tougher at night. All of these are amplified when under high currents. This site can rip and swirl and chew and spit you out. There's pl...

Re: THTHTH (8/27)

Hi
I heard there were some hatching at cove 2, albeit very slowly. But those nests are not really advisable to visit with >2 divers because it is cramped and silts so easily with little flush.

I recommend we try 3 tree again. But I'm not sure I'm in yet.
