Re: Pets.

I've had horses, dogs, cats, snakes, lizards, turtles, fish, frogs, rabbits, wild orphan mallards, a flying possum, a hawk, and a fox. True story. I though I had animal husbandry licked but then I had kids. That knocked me down a few pegs. :penelope: (green = kid, yellow = parent)

Re: Logging dives?

I love diving and someday I won't be able to do it anymore. I log my dives to record who I was with and what we did/saw. It's a journal more than anything else. It lets me relive those moments that otherwise may be forgotten or fuzzy with time. Important experiences with friends should be recorded. ...

Re: only a bit of diving footage, but beautiful none-the-les

Those 120fps slo-mo sequences are awesome. It's so amazing what cheap consumer equipment can do today.

I dig the soundtrack. I tracked it down and bought a copy. Bassnectar remix of Ellie Gould's 'Lights'.

Re: Anonymous Mistake, "oops", or "OMG" section

Do it like an advice column. Call it "Dear Nailer" and we'll all make up pen names like "Bent in Bremerton" and "Hypoxic in Hoodsport". But seriously... Yes, it ~could~ be a good addition to the site. There may be unintended consequences though. I think we are more quic...

Re: James Cameron to explore the deepest depths of the ocean

I can't believe the utter lack of media coverage this expedition is receiving. There are a few scattered reports (France, Guam...) saying Cameron started his dive on the 22nd. The Mermaid Sapphire's daily marine report for yesterday (22nd) shows that at midnight they were at sea but still doing pre-...

I can tear down a rebreather but somebody else has to reassemble it. Oh, and it should probably be condemned and used for display only.

Re: Can You Damage An LED Emitter?

So I looked at my emitter and it appears to have a burnt spot in the middle. The emitter is much more of an orange color as opposed to the greenish tone. It's definitely overheated then. The die surface should be a uniform bright yellow. If it has a brownish center it is quite literally 'toast'. Sa...

Re: Can You Damage An LED Emitter?

I looked up some info on the SST50 and found comments that it will color shift warmer (i.e., yellow) when under-driven at very low levels. Sounds like maybe it's just not getting enough current to the emitter. What can you tell us about this light? Commercial? Custom? Your own DIY?

Re: Trim?

It was pointed out that for a certain segment of the population the word Trim also includes the positional attitude and that attitude is horizontal. This is a non-standard use of the word. But, that is not an issue as there are lots of groups who use words in a non-standard way. Non-standard (incor...

Re: Trim?

I know it wasn't the original intent of the topic, but since Richard and Lamont listed some of the benefits of horizontal trim I'll add two more which I think are important. In the horizontal position the diver's lungs and regulator are at the same pressure thus reducing work of breathing compared t...

Re: What Fins Do You Use & Why?

I recently aquired F1s and here are my observations: If you primarily scissor-kick or flutter-kick you might find them to be very stiff. They are much stiffer than jets, slipstreams, or turtles. If that bothers you, don't write them off until you've worked on frog kicking, back kicking, and helicopt...

Re: What Fins Do You Use & Why?

Social pressure: Friends don't let friends silt-out dive sites with bad fins and bad finning. Two criteria 1. Fins must be efficient at non-silting kicks 2. Diver needs to use aforementioned kicks or 1. Does no good. Personal preference : Scubapro Jet (original) OMS Slipstream Turtles Hollis F1 (bat...
