Re: Go Pro advice

Another thing you can do is add a text file or word document to your data card with your contact info on it assuming that you have not already labeled your camera with your name and phone number.

Re: Dive light better suited for the PNW area

I guess I will be the first one to say that you can't go wrong with a light from Forum member Dusty. He makes great lights. Do a search for Dusty's lights.

He'll probably see this and respond himself.

Re: Dive flag (deep boat) float

Many, many years ago my dive buddy and I put the first ascent / descent line in and we used a 30 gallon barrel (Ed's Surplus in Lynnwood) and we set it around 20 feet deep. From there we ran a line to the surface with a bouy attached. One of the things we realized after doing this was that due to th...

I wonder if the barrel that was at 20 feet that the float attached to is still there?

Re: Free Diving/Spearfishing

There is a local group of spearos by the name of Bottomsounders. They have a group over on Yahoo. I'm sure that you could ask this question over there. Most spearfishing in Puget Sound is limited to Ling Cod, Kelp Greenling and Cabezon with maybe some pile perch. The good spearfishing is out at Neah...

Re: Spearfishing

There is a pretty active group of local free divers that go by the name of Bottom sounders. They are on yahoo groups. They go to Neah Bay fairly often and they could give you some pointers on local opportunities.

Re: FYI , Nitek Q4 $499 at DGE

It is a good deal but the rechargeable battery is sealed and is good for 150 dives or 3 years whichever comes first.

I prefer to be able to change the batteries myself. Brings back memories of my old US Divers moniter 2 that had a sealed battery and had to be sent off to get changed.

YMMV.

Re: Photon Torpedo LED Upgrade

You might look at Brightguy.com they sell the SL4 lights but they do not list the modules separately. You might shoot them an email and they might be able to hook you up with some LED modules. One thing with the LED modules that I have gotten is that I had to put the batteries in backwards (negative...

Photon Torpedo LED Upgrade

I bought a couple of drop in modules from a guy on Scubaboard. His name is jjblomquist. You might do a search or him on there I think his email is jjblomquist@comcast.net. I don't know if he is still selling the led modules but when I bought mine they were quite a bit less than the Gulftex lights. H...

Re: Mukilteo fuel pier

The Boeing (P.O.E.) dock was built directly over the old reef at Edgewater. The reef is right in the middle where the barges are docked and the tug boat guys really do not like divers anywhere near that dock.

Port of Everett (Boeing) dock

Just curious if anyone has dove at the Port of Everett (Boeing) dock that is just North of the oil dock in Mukilteo? We have gone by it may times in the boat after diving at the oil dock. It has no trespassing signs on it but I am not sure if that applies to underwater activities. There are no other...

Re: PNW Underwater Mapping Project goes live!!

Nicely done! In looking at the depths on some of the sites they don't quite match up. For example the Harpoon is a lot deeper than what is depicted on the map. Unless I am totally reading the info wrong. Is it safe to assume that they depths recorded are based on the towfish data not on surface data...

Re: Viz Reports Thread

Went crabbing at Mukilteo today 5 foot vis would be generous. My buddies and I tried something new we dug up all of our old vintage gear and used it for the dive. After the dive we realized why we now dive the gear we have now. You really gain an appreciation for how far things have come in the last...

Re: Aluminum 90 specs?

I have had a few of these tanks. I bought my first one back in 1989. I dive this and a steel 102 and I don't notice any difference between them. I wear the same set up with the 90 as I do the 102 only difference is the amount of gas I have available. This probably does not help much. I used to have ...

Re: Diamond Knot at risk for oil spill

I don't think that the Diamond Knot was a "Liberty ship". http://www.liberty-ship.com/html/topics/hulldeck.html This shows that the Liberty ship is 441' long and the Diamond Knot is 326'. Also the super structure on a Liberty ship is located amidships and the super structure on the Diamond...

Re: Hat (Gedney) Island Barges have been removed.

I'm sure of course that the exclusive home owners on Hat Island did their due diligence and performed an Enviromental Impact Study and that they considered the habitat destruction and it's impact on imperiled populations of Rockfish in Puget Sound. I hope that they are not going to disturb any eel g...

Re: How many Cu ft. for a drysuit bottle?

Purging is done after you put on your suit and are zipped up. Some people open their exhaust valve or pull open their neck seal while squatting down to vent the excess air out of their suit. You want your suit and undergarment full of dense insulating gas (argon) and not lighter air that is why you ...

Curt,

Barry Hatch says get better soon and someone was looking out for you. You were very lucky to diving with a group of Doctors when this happened.

Barry and I look forward to seeing you at the t-dock or the boat launch.

Re: Dive Site Maps?

Jeremy's map is much better than the crude map I put together. The only thing that I would add is the compass heading back to the beach. In some spots it is easy to get turned around so whenever I dive Mukilteo I use a return to the beach heading of 150 degrees.
