Re: Anybody here good at physics?

"First, consider a spherical diver..." Force on the diver is proportional to the velocity squared and the surface area of the diver (assuming density and drag held constant). Power to overcome the force is proportional to the velocity cubed and the surface area of the diver (density and dr...

Re: Dive Accident at Keystone today

forwarded from a SB post on the other thread: UPDATE CLASSMATES: It is with a sad heart that I am telling you this news. After the warming process, Deb's family was given the news that she has no brain activity and they will begin turning the machines off. Deb is an organ donor so they are taking ca...

Re: Dive Accident at Keystone today

I can't imagine being in a rescue course and having this happen to someone that you'd been sitting through the lectures with. I know its bad enough as a bystander or someone involved in the rescue, but I can't imagine what its like for the students and instructor in the course. I hope they restarted...

Re: Cove 2 Line and Buoy Project status

Oh! By the way... You know all that practice you all have done to achieve nice , neutral trim while diving? You can kiss all that good-bye! Working on this type of project, you will be dragging stuff all over the bottom, kicking up silt and (most likely) you will be kneeling/standing on the bottom ...

Re: RMV on Jacked Tanks

Practically for us, the whole "ideal gas law" when it comes to gas compressibility (i.e. van Der Waals) mostly applies with regards to partial pressures of gasses when you mix them, but even then, the biggest factor is really temperature and you can ignore the van der waals deviation for ...

Re: RMV on Jacked Tanks

Thanks Sqid, I had assumed I needed to bump up the tank size for the purpose of doing the math. However how do I determine the amount of air in the tank at any given pressure? Again I'm assuming its a simple ratio so that if a LP 85 holds 85 ft3 of air at 2640 (a ratio of 31 psi = 1 ft3) then it ho...

Re: RMV on Jacked Tanks

its always: cu ft used = cu ft tank * ( psi used / psi service pressure ) if you start with a 3500 psi filled lp104 and get out of the water with 1500 psi you just figure out the psi you used: 3500 - 1500 = 2000 psi then plug that into the formula above, which doesn't care if the 2000 psi came off o...

Re: Nauticam vs Aquatica NEX 5N?

I've got the Nauticam. The only reason why is that I was waiting for the Aquatica and got tired of clicking reload on webpages and waiting for it to be shipping, so Nauticam got my money instead. Unfortunately, I won't try to pretend to be an expert about these things -- this is my first system whic...

Re: Is a DPV Class Worth Taking?

yes, take one. at the very least it should show you proper riding position and emergency procedures and get you dialed in much faster. i've done informal scooter orientation dives before and its a lot of work on my part and its imperfect and slower to get the diver over the learning curve. after hav...

Update! These are two different sharks....Mikiko found the evidence.... If you're interested look at the first video at 2:14 and the second at 3:14 and notice the first has a notch in his right pectoral fin and the second does not. There's more than one out there folks! How cool is that? Mark if th...

Re: Report on the Valiant lines

mark's line is still there. as you're heading out if you wind up on the old line that starts at a PVC 'T' piece and goes by a plastic paddle stuck in the mud around 40' or something -- you need to hang a sharp left and go 50 feet or so and you'll find the new line. intact all the way to the wreck. t...

yeah, the intact-to-120 one is scotts line, i think, nobody had any luck trying to find it from there.

it sounds like the new line has now been torn up.

Re: Lk Washington SNV-2 Valiant

Yeah, me and Dave had actually gone out twice before trying to find this wreck ourselves and not managed to find it. We didn't have very good directions so it was mostly a bit of practice running line at 120 in the lake for the whole dive, but I guess that builds character. At the same time Mark, Wa...

Lk Washington SNV-2 Valiant

http://vimeo.com/45989170 Yesterday, shot video of the SVN-2 Valiant in Lake Washington with Mark Tourtellot and Casey Offord. This is a small fighter wrecked due north of the old sand point naval airbase (aka Magnuson Park). This site has been trolling me for a bit and have done two dives here wit...

Valerie Lyttle ( I think ) once told be to scrape off the stingers with a credit card or cert card. That seemed to work pretty good... Another tip is to just not stick your face into the jelly  That's how I do it now -- The first year I was diving I didn't quite seem to be able to keep my fac...

Guess that should answer questions unless there is something scuba specific they don't know. call them back up and ask them about running them to power a heating vest for scuba diving that is entirely analog 'circuitry' and has absolutely no low voltage cutout and ask how careful you should be of d...
