Re: Big Buddy/Club Dive - Redondo, August 16th!

Hmmm, turns out nominating myself to bring "snacks" is fairly non-descriptive. How about signing me up for Potato Salad and fruit salad. I have a fresh batch of pickles that is burning a hole in my pantry.

Re: Dive Board Immigrant

Gospodin Scottsax's signature questions my (our) noble heritage. In response, I kindly refer to his alternative sexual practices. I love online translators. When I copy and paste the entire text, the translation is "The mouth-watering whore and monkey's stupid son back at ya' dude, and drink t...

Re: And yet one more New Member

Hey, if folks come to Steilacoom, the first round is on me. Just think - two dives sites less than two miles apart, plus DIW and Titlow right up the road. Jim, send me a PM when you get back from your trip and I will buy you a cocktail. Jake's is my favorite for food, but I can often be found in my ...

Re: And yet one more New Member

Hi Jim. I'm right down the road from you in Steilacoom. There are quite a few of us in the area, so dive buddies should not be a problem for you. I am still at the point in my diving where I locate very good divers, beg them to dive with me, and promise them beer at some unspecified future time. So ...

Re: Big Buddy/Club Dive - Redondo, August 16th!

Count me in! I am attempting to frog kick on Saturday and am working on the list of other skills that I need to work on (all of them, really). I make a mean snack platter, so I will definitely pull my own snack weight.

Re: Test post

I have the same problem (running Firefox, IE and I argue too much). It happens in both posts and PMs. My work around is boring - type message, highlight and copy message, try to submit, get kicked out, log back in (several times if necessary), then paste the message and post. Repeat as necessary. On...

I was in 89-99.... Counterdrug/intelligence in South/Central America and other ops in the islands Buzo, we may have met somewhere along the way. I spent a lot of time in Bolivia between 1996 and 1998. I also worked with lot of folks running exercises throughout the theater and later ran the Southco...

Re: My DATC Dive Reports

LCF, I can't wait to dive with you. I read your journal about your OW course and it made me laugh out loud. I get the feeling you have a sense of humor like mine - either people find you funny or they look at you as if you are just a little bit slow. I am actively scanning my calendar for days that ...

My DATC Dive Reports

Thanks to a lot of help from folks on this board, I am happy to report five great dives at Redondo between Friday and Sunday (plus a quick note on a sixth dive). I am sorry for the sheer length of this post, but I am excited, happy, and giddy all at once and I just have to share. BIG improvements si...

I was unaware of my somewhat mystical abilities to call a cease fire on this thread. I am willing to put the matter to a vote (or a bribe...). Good to know for future reference.

Tom, congrats on dive # 300 and thanks for letting me share it with you along. I had an incredible time (still smiling about it 8 hours later) and learned a ton from you and Sounder. The trip report is in the works. The pictures turned out beautiful. Thank you for sharing them.

Re: NWUE Buddy Group

As another lurker on various DIR forums, I admit that I am intrigued by DIR diving. It helps that the major proponents on this board also happen to be very open and kind about diving in general, and their philosophy in particular. The reason I have avoided DIR divers (to the point of checking out pe...

Re: You may want to re-think your offer...

Thank you all for the encouragement. I was so embarrassed last night that while cleaning my gear, I actually thought for a few moments that this was something that was just out of my league. Then I remembered that when I was jumping out of planes (long story, tell you later), I sucked at it for a ve...

You may want to re-think your offer...

So, several members of this board have been kind enough to offer to dive with my inept @ss this weekend. I figured that in the spirit of honesty, I would drink a few beers and give you all fair warning for what you are in for. I promise, I won't hold it against you if you bail on our dives. So, firs...

Re: Where to wear a dive knife?

After months of lurking and occasional postings, I vote this as the best threat hi-jack ever! Okay, so I haven't met any of you, but now I desperately want to! Can I be the flower girl at the wedding(s)? Pretty please? Who wouldn't want a newbie in a wetsuit with buoyancy problems from being a part ...

Where to wear a dive knife?

In the grand gear buying orgy yesterday, I accumulated a bunch of new gear, including a dive knife. I feel very official now, since I will not be renting everything I wear into the water. That being said, where is the best place to wear said dive knife. I have heard numerous views and was hoping for...

Newbie needs gear advice

I have been certified for a few years, but have just played around at resorts where they give you everything you need and hold your hand during the dive. As I get more involved in regular, recreational diving, I am facing the dilemma of choosing gear. What advice can you offer on starting the collec...

New to diving, new to Washington

Hello all. I have been lurking for a while, but decided to take a deep breath and introduce myself. I got my OW certification a few years ago, but have only been diving at resorts. I want to get more dives, but am a bit nervous about the Puget Sound (it's COLD out there). I am ready to take the plun...
