Grateful Diver's Gas Management Class Rocks!!

Got to go to one of Bob's gas management classes tonight and it was a hoot. I enjoyed the class a lot, it had tons of good info for new and experienced divers alike and it was really-really good to meet the famous Grateful Diver in person at last!! Now I can put a real face to his postings (course, ...

Re: Help with wrist mount dive computer

I have the simplest of computers- the Oceanic Veo 100nx. It was very inexpensive but I have owned it for awhile and I have many dives on it. I can say these things about it: 1: Seems super robust- never an issue and has cheap, user changeable batteries. 2: Simple and easy to read display- only 1 but...

Re: NiMh C cells for Light Cannon

Thanks all for the thoughtful discussion. Based on it- I'm thinking about a couple of things- 1: a friend of mine will let me borrow those NiMh C cells that he didn't like to try out- I can do some testing to see how they do and see if I like them. 2: If they don't pan out, I will probably try to bu...

Re: NiMh C cells for Light Cannon

Thanks for the info- I've always felt NiCads were just very inferior to NiMh but it could just be my experience with them. The fact that the UK pack uses them probably means I missed something there I think. I forgot to add rechargeable alkaline-- I have a very small amount of experience with these ...

NiMh C cells for Light Cannon

Folks, I have a light cannon and I love it but it is a bit of a battery hog for spendy alkalines. I'd love to convert it to something rechargeable and would like to hear peoples thoughts who have done this to see what works and what doesn't. 1: There is the UK recharge solution- a NiCd pack 2: There...

Re: Understanding Oxygen Sensors by Paul Raymaekers

I work in a materials science lab. We have all manner of toxic, flammable, just plain strange materials we keep an eye on with a lot of electrochemical sensors. In the case of O2, we monitor areas where we want to keep the concentration down to a certain level (like a glove box or vacuum chamber) so...

Re: Understanding Oxygen Sensors by Paul Raymaekers

Great article on o2 sensors- Lots of detail and thought put into it. I work with these galvanic cells daily and I see the real world performance of them which gives me pause about folks using them diving (i.e. pressure and cold when they are really designed to work in ambient atmosphere). When they ...

Stickers?

Folks- I ran into a couple of patrons of this forum (a rare thing for me since we are near PDX) while diving at Redondo recently. I noticed they were from the NWDC because of their bumper sticker.....I'd like to get one or two myself so folks might come up to me and say "I notice you are on the...

Re: DUI or BARE dry suit?

My wife and I dive Bare suits- which we love. We've never had any issues with the suits. I know folks that dive DUI, Whites and USIA and they love their particular suits too. Best thing to do is look at more than a few- try them on (with a thermal- like you are going to dive it), check out the featu...

Re: Sund Rock Dives Oct 2

The site seemed pretty empty- definitely no problem parking. We had 3 cars there with 8 divers and there were about another 4-6 total so it seemed pretty light. The fish were very lethargic- they wouldn't move much even when approached- the sea cukes were spreading out every tube they owned to get a...

Sund Rock Dives Oct 2

Had a couple of nice dives at Sund with some friends. We dove the south wall first and were treated to lots of dead critters at 50-60 ft and more barely alive critters at 30ft and up. We did see some cool (huge) groupings of animals- the fish bowl looked like an aquarium but much less lively than re...

Lost Mask- Sund - Oct 2nd

Folks, A friend of mine lost his mask as we swam out to the trawler. It is bright yellow and despite repeated searches, we couldn't find it. It might be a tad more into the shore than on a straight line out to the buoy. If anyone locates it, he would very much like to have it back as it was his favo...

Body Glove crushed neoprene Dry Suit is perfect for child or small adult. The crushed neoprene will keep these small people warm! Suit should fit someone 5 foot to 5'8 tall and 90 to 120 lbs. Re: Jorstad and Elephant Wall + Redondo bonus dive.

Good report and great pix! How long is the surface swim at Jorstad? Is it difficult to find the structures there?
Elephant wall-- is it a shore dive as well? I'm looking for new shore dives in the Hood :)
