I thought about going with the regulator setup but that puts a lot of cycling on the regulators and I have read it might be potentially too hard on the regs and seats.
You are right, a zip lock bag and 2 spot ties is a pretty cheap way to go for trimix. :-)

Re: Thoughts on filling ones own tanks
I forgot to add, in the first pic you can see my normal input tube coming down from my nitrox stick. When I'm done with the helium I just pop one grey tube out, stick the nitrox tube back in and am filling with nitrox within about 15 seconds from the time I stop pumping helium.

As long as you keep the bag somewhat pressurized all is good. Second pic is my needle valve that I use to keep helium in the bag. It's from McMaster Carr...

Re: Thoughts on filling ones own tanks
I used koos's method once and I ended off just a bit on the final mix. I think it's because I have oxygen creep as the tanks fill. As the oxygen started to creep, it was really a guessing game as to whether to increase helium or decrease oxygen. I did a little of both and ended up off Can I ask why ...

Re: Seacrest underwater harvest protection
It might also be a good idea to express that we are not against people that spear fish just not in a place like Cove II. While that may be true for a good portion of people on this board, I do not personally feel it applies to everyone. I believe there are some that would like to see it banned comp...

Re: Octo Harvesting: A question
I would think the regulation makers would be most concerned with not "hurting" the octo underwater when there is a chance it could escape injured and then die. That is essentially a waste... but not entirely, because even a dead octopus in the ocean will feed other animals. The ocean is ve...

No worries amigo. You have always seemed very level headed to me and just proved it again.
I know this is a hot and emotional topic.

Re: Octo Harvesting: A question
After spending some time in the reg's. I'm didn't see anything pertaining to 'HOW' you are to kill your prey. I saw that your not allowed to puncture the creature, nor are you allowed to use chemicals to get them out of a den and several other 'don'ts'. I'm assuming that you must take them physical...

Re: Any recommendations on a Marine GPS unit?
I use a lowrance hds-8 and love it. It's a bit higher than your price range, I got mine for 1600. I don't own the side scan and probably won't buy the upgrade to use it. If I find something on the normal sonar and am interested, I just strap a tank on and dive it.

Re: Seacrest underwater harvest protection
Washington absolutely has Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) sometimes for all species, sometimes for selected species, and sometimes just limiting gear types. So a "no harvesting GPOs by scuba or snorkeling/free diving" in some defined area has plenty of precedent. As would "no harvest o...

Re: Seacrest underwater harvest protection
Can you fish at Edmonds? Can a boat drop anchor in there and fish? All watercraft are forbidden inside the park ... including divers on scooters. But let's not cloud the issue ... that is a City ordinance, and not something dictated by the state. As a Marine Preserve, fishing of all types is forbid...

Re: Seacrest underwater harvest protection
It has been 2 years since I have reviewed Washington fishing regs, but I seem to recall there being no such verbiage about "no underwater take zones" or anything of the like. Not saying it woud be impossible to get it created, but I think it would certainly be easier to develop something w...

Re: Seacrest underwater harvest protection
This is awesome! Maybe cut Octo hunting while watching eggs, limit to less than 1 a day (imagining if 100 divers caught their limit each day for 1 month shudder) and have Cove 1 2 and 3 be sanctuaries. Do the GPO spawn throughout the year or only during a certain time? It would be impossible to enf...

Re: Boat rendezvous
Hahaha. I love it. NWDC... The place where boat owners can offer to take a regatta of folks out diving and within a day, have it turn into...whatever this is. If I was there, EVERYONE would want to come on my boat. I'm just that cool. Lol Problem is, I would want to be on Boydski's boat. That thing ...

We dove the Tennaco Towers yesterday. They are old oil platforms. Vis was pretty crappy and it was a lot darker than normal at 100 feet. Perfect Halloween video.

Re: Transfill pressure between dissimilar tanks
Josh. The dives I did today with Chris put me over 225 for the year. I think this qualifies me as NOT a cyber diver. As such, I am going to comment. I routinely dive with a 19 cuft pony bottle strapped to my leg. My dive knife/sword is held securely between my teeth. I simply alternate the knife wit...

I hope so. They don't do to well going through the scooter prop. Hehe
They are great eating. All white meat, not a drop of red in them.
I made a batch of ceviche with our recent catch. Chris enjoyed it, but it ended up causing him to perform a modified war hammer today.

That may be so. But my lobster is easier to clean and cook. And it's in season damn near year round.
