Re: South Hood Canal O2 levels tanking

Janna, wind was from the south yesterday (or, at least the surface action was moving toward the north, so I assume...). What I really noticed between weekend of 9/24 and this weekend was the lack of the top layer thermocline. It was REALLY warm on the surface 9/24; with two distinct thermoclines: on...

Re: How many dive with a wetsuit in the PNW?

Dry Suit -- I am pretty impressed with the new(ish) Scubapro full neoprene Dry Suits -- $1000 for the Suit and Undergarment. It seems to me that you can get one, dive it for a couple of years and then be able to sell it for several hundred ($500?) and the money would be very well spent. IF that wor...

Re: Advice on Scuba Tanks

The THOUGHT of dual 130's makes me hurt. :) As you can see from this thread... there's conventional wisdom but it's heavily affected by What Works For You. Start with logic, run that through the gamut of conventional wisdom, and then arrive at What Works for You. I'm with ORDiver that the HP100's ar...

Re: Low 02 in the Hood Canal?

I had two hour long dives Sunday (1st out to the large wreck to the north; 2nd back to a midpoint on the north wall to recheck something, them out and down to the south). Octos in every nook and cranny, it seemed. Multiple octos resting out in the open in the shallows (one at 27 feet halfway between...

Re: Advice on Scuba Tanks

I have some direct experience to contribute here. LOL. Yes, more gas is good, can't disagree with that. But... I underestimated the impact that cylinder weight would have when I purchased. I recently got brand spankin' new LP 108's. Too big, too heavy, too long. (TWSS.) They are 13 lbs heavier each ...

Re: FS: (2) New XS Scuba LP 108 steel cylinders

The cubic feet is nice, but daaaaaang, the extra 13 lbs each compared to the HP 100s I had been diving... I can't lug both of them up a hill. That was the test. About killed myself. Ugh. But that's me... I'm a wimp. I'm sure you strappin' manly types could juggle them both without a thought. ;)

Re: Not even a wet duck yet.

Welcome! Oh, so exciting, to be cracking open this Pandora's Box of modern scuba-ness! As you no doubt already see, there are many options, and most will work for most people, but we all find our favorites, what we hate, and what we think everyone else should use. ;) I'm a big fan of the White's dry...

FS: (2) New XS Scuba LP 108 steel cylinders

On offer: Two XS Scuba LP 108 Steel Cylinders (by Worthington) These are brand new, dove for one weekend before I decided they are just too damn big for my regular use. :) They came to me new from XS just two weeks ago, I dove them this past weekend, and am going to get myself some HP100s instead. Re: Drysuit undergarment socks

I tried a lot of options -- dif types of socks, dif combos of socks... and was always cold. UNTIL a friend let me borrow his Fourth Element Arctic socks. They come in ankle or calf length. He gave me the calf length to try and... after one dive I jokingly said, "Dude, you're NEVER getting these...

Welp, don't know if they are in Oregon. You've got some good suggestions, though. I've seen 'em with my own eyes at Redondo, Sund Rock, and... elsewhere but I can't say for certain and can't find the photo to match the date w/ the trip in my log book. :) Here's the lovely I saw last just recently at...

Type of gunnel or...?

I've taken a cruise through Marine Life of the Pacific Northwest but must have missed these... What type of gunnel is this? I've seen them at Mike's Beach, also this weekend at West Wall of Pulali and Pinnacle. Beautiful dark pink/red. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6204/6067422441_fcedc1434e.jpg Bi...

Wanna dive Hood Canal Friday, Sat or Sun?

I'm up in the Hood Canal (staying at Mike's) this weekend. I'm with a group but during the day there's a lot of class and training dives going on (and I'm not training or working woo hoo). I'm looking to set up some buddies for those days.

Anyone gonna be around? PM me or resp and let's dive!

What cylinder do you dive, and why?

I'm ankle deep in cylinder stats, and wondering why in the heck they make so many options? :) So tell me... what do you dive and why? I'm primarily thinking rec, but I'd love to hear techies talk over my head. ;) Low pressure or high? What size cylinder? Pref for maker? And did you come to this thro...

I've seen octos that have gone WAY paler; and once they pass they are very pale, an alabaster gray and as said, they start to decompose quickly and the locals will begin to move the cycle forward.

I started using Seal Saver on my latex wrist/neck seals a few months ago after replacing the wrist seals which were seriously degrading. Did you pick up this gear at Sund Rock on Sat July 24?

I'd left a pair of faded yellow Tusa Xpert Zoom splits and two 2-lb weights at the top of the entrance to the North wall (diving a dif set of fins, and trying less weight, wanted to avoid a walk back to the vehicle if either were needed). When we came up from our dive they were gone. Stopped at the ...

I have a design I half borrowed, half altered. I said I was going to get it after finishing my DM, but I've put that on hold to clear out some other projects, so it'll be a while. Another "yes" on the class. So many benefits -- you'll learn something from the class if it's well taught. If you want to get to know a shop, then select the shop you are going to use are your "home shop" and doing the class will help you help them. You can connect with someone t...

Can't say enough that research is one important element, but a test dive is another. I have used a friend's BC once that I HATED. I would have SWORN it was deficient in lift. HATED IT. Didn't feel secure, didn't feel like it had enough lift--and this was in a pool. Looking at the stats -- it was equ...
