By the way, if you are interested in signing up for SmugMug do not hesitate to ask for a discount. They will send you a discount code right away. In fact, they sent one for 20% off. I wrote back...

Agreed, great article and photography. I really enjoyed the barnacle photo. I have been trying to capture the beauty of those little creatures for a while. I saw that photo and thought "That's exactly what I was looking for!" Great job.

Re: Dive trip recommendations for Alaska Companion Fare

Great shore diving in Kona! Puako is great with easy access, also dove place-of-refuge (another easy entry). The two dives to do via boat are the manta dive dive and black water dive (I didn't get to do the BW dive, I heard it was great!). You can check out some of my photos and videos for a taste :...

Re: Dive trip recommendations for Alaska Companion Fare

Gotta go with Kona. Best diving of my life last month. Hotel rates are cheap as is airfare. I got upgraded to first class on Alaska too. They are really competitive since they are new to the Hawaiian islands.

Re: Looking for Dive Buddy in Kona

Eric,

BTW - Let me know if you need anything from the mainland. Smoked Salmon, Halibut Cheeks, Dungeness Crab, Almond Roca... When I visit Ohau and Maui I am usually bringing treats for my wife's family, so no big deal bringing some extra items :-)

Will do Sockmonkey. Looking forward to some Kona diving. I will have a car, so an hour north is no problem.

Looking for Dive Buddy in Kona

Aloha,

I will be in Kona June 25th through July 2nd. I have a couple boat dives setup. However, I would like to squeeze in 2-6 shore dives. Is there anyone out there willing to buddy up with me?

Awesome, thanks Greg. I thought the fish was a scalyhead, but I had never seen one that color.

Some ID help please

I fish was found at Three Tree North at about 30'.

The other species looked like a shrimp of some kind. I saw it at Jorstad Creek at about 25' depth. I could not find either in Lamb and Hanby's book.

Thanks for your help.

This is one of the reasons I love diving! There are so many talented people that unselfishly share with others. Thanks for posting this Greg! :grouphug:

Warm water photography

I am heading the West Palm Beach Florida in a couple weeks for business. I am squeezing a day of diving in. Do I need to make any camera adjustments or do I need any filters to shoot in blue tropical waters? I have only shot in our dark green waters  I am shooting most shots in Manual Mode ...

Re: Octo - Just Curious

Dusty 2, thanks. I thought it was a red but it just looked really smooth. Usually I don't see them stay that smooth for 5-10 shots.

Octo - Just Curious

I was going through some albums and came across this guy. I know octos can change their texture, but I have several shots of this fella and he is smooth in everyone. Has anyone seen this smooth texture on a small octo? Thanks.

Janna,

I don't know if my photos are good enough for this. But here are a few of my better photos from the list. All photos are available in RAW format too.

Thanks,

Let me clarify. I meant a 2 foot six gill pup swimming right toward my face and I wanted a head on shot.

Re: Canon G10 + Ikelite Setup + Focus Light Question

Thanks for all your help and advice. I played around with the settings at Redondo last night and discovered some issues. When in AV mode I need to set the flash to manual. Otherwise the strobe fires twice and any lighting (dive or focus) distorts the image. I also used Manual mode and that worked as...

Nice photos Greg. I like the white tip, nice shot of the shark "in action". I saw four of these guys inside Molokini Crater, but they were resting :-)
