Re: End of the World diving in Fiji!

A few more photos from today's dives in Fiji. Tomorrow I may attempt some D800 video, if I can get the settings right. So far I have been shooting the D800 with a Sigma 15mm Fisheye in a custom 4" mini-dome with two DS-125 strobes. Zoo & Rainbow Reef Dec 22 2012 -17.jpg Zoo & Rainbow Re...

Re: End of the World diving in Fiji!

Today's dives were even better than yesterdays (which was our first dive day). I am not sure I should torture the drizzled masses in WA with more sunny blue water photos however... It's also been adjustment of sort diving open circuit. I've been diving a rebreather since 2007 and I think I only went...

End of the World diving in Fiji!

I wanted to get a jump on this whole end of the world business, so I popped over to Fiji to get my final dives in early! I'll be spending Christmas time diving and getting in a little winter time sun. It was a near thing as Fiji was hit with a nasty Cyclone the day before my departure. There was the...

Wrapping up Thankgiving @ Redondo

A beautiful day at the pier with lots of sun and great visibility. Probably 20-30 feet at the 2pm high tide.

Re: Gunnel had too much turkey to eat

Awesome pics Eric, sounds like a great day in the water. Any chance you are up for a repeat on Sunday? If I can score a dry suit tomorrow (my is out for a new zipper) I'd love to hit the beach this weekend.

Follow up on Deck Building project

I want post a follow up on my deck replacement project that Scuba Scott built for me this summer. My pool deck was in pretty sad shape with rotten deck planks and old framing, connecting to a concrete slap pool deck. Scuba Scott tore it out inspected the concrete slab and went the extra mile of pour...

WTB: Luxfer AL 14cf low pressure cylinder

I am looking for one or more Luxfer 14cf low pressure (2000psi) cylinders. I prefer these to the Al13cf 3000 psi cylinders, but they are hard to find.

One of mine just failed a hydro test and I need a replacement.

Re: Shooting in RAW

Those photos seems to be suffering from lack of a strobe to light the scene. If you don't have a strobe, then you are only going to get various degrees of cyan and green photos. Post processing can only help so much, especially in our PNW low light conditions. Lacking a strobe, you need to get more ...

Re: Lens help

The dome port will have a negative impact on a 60mm or other macro lens. You will lose magnification, negating some of what you want from a macro lens. You really do want a flatport for best results. An Ikelite flatport can be found pretty inexpensively.

Re: First shots on the new camera body

I just received a D800 and new housing last Friday. Sadly I had to travel out of town all week, so I get to dive it for the first time Saturday morning. Very exciting! I'm all set for macro compatible FX lenses (60mm, 105mm), but need to get a new port that will allow my Sigma 15mm fisheye lens to w...

Re: Redondo 8/19

The stealthy six gills skunked us again, but we had a really great dive anyway! Really good visibility last night, with 20+ feet at least most of the time. As Yelloweye described, it was Octo-pa-luza time with at least 20 little fist size guys out in the open. I only saw one monster Octo under one o...

Re: We got skunked too!

We got skunked on the Six Gills, but it was still a really nice night for diving. The vis above 30' was coffee colored murk, but below that layer is was 20+ feet of horizontal vis. Lots of critters out and about. Here are a few video highlights. Our little Octo pretending to be a Sea Star: http://vi...

Re: Redondo 7/15

YellowEye and I had a great time at Redondo, and it was a first time at this site for me. Conditions were pretty good, with vis between 10 - 20 feet most of the time. Really warm too, with temps in the top 20' of about 60f! YellowEye shot macro, but I did wide and CFWA so we got some variety. Here a...

Re: The trip of a lifetime!

I went to Socorro on the Nautilus in February, and it was one of my favorite trips ever. The Nautilus is the best, but Mantas, dolphins, and sharks galore sent it over the top. Your bonus visit to Sea of Cortez had me really jealous and eager to go back.

Great photos Bric!

I can't manage Monday night, but Wednesday night is perfect. I suggest an evening dive in West Seattle. 7pm perhaps? Maybe we can all meet for a local dive this coming week? Sounds good! I could be up for Monday or Wednesday night! I'm in, just let's agree where and when. Both days work for me.

Re: Next dive trip

1) Second recommendation for Nanaimo if you dive cold water. 2) How about CocoView in Honduras? It's cheap, easy travel, easy diving, and they have a wreck right off the beach. Plus lots of great reef diving. We are still new divers and have lots to see. We have been in the sound 3 times and plan on...

Re: SM, SCR, and CCR questions...

I have a Sport Kiss, and it does weigh about 45# with a pair of LP14cf bottles. I generally dive with a 30cf stage, but I rarely go below 120'. It also probably costs more than 6k. Maybe for 6K you can get a tricked out used model, or a bare bones retail unit, but you are going to need to add a prop...

I am not sure which is worse, Revo or Meg divers! I am a KISS man myself, those MegHead's are such posers...

On the other hand, I think I might be able to pay for this job with a few pallets of Sorb and some Camo colored spraypaint. :)

Need a referal for a Deck Builder

I have a deck & railing (about 400 sq foot) that needs rebuilding and I am having a hard time finding someone who will make a fair estimate and is willing to do the work in less than 3 months. Anyone have a referral to pass along?

Thanks,
Dave
