Re: South Baja 2018

Bob: Your photo looks like the long-beaked dolphin. Do you know if that is right? -Curt I don't know ... but there sure were a lot of 'em. The water was churning for about a mile by maybe 100 yards across. They called it a super pod and said there were easily 1000 dolphins, if not more, surrounding...

South Baja 2018

I recently returned from an 18 day trip to the South Baja and the Revillagigedos (Socorro) Islands. I spent 8 days on the Solmar V, and another 8 days working my way up the Sea of Cortez coast from Cabo to Loreto (roughly 320 miles). Did five days of diving in the Socorros, and another four days in ...

Keystone, March 25

Got in my first dives in more than six weeks yesterday morning. I wanted to hit the early morning slack, which meant in the water no later than 7 AM. So I had to drive around over Deception Pass, since the ferry doesn't start running that early on Sundays. Got there around 6:15 and in the water just...

Re: Redondo: where did all marine life go?

You have to know where to look, but there is always something to see at Redondo. I always find things in the bottle fields, often hiding inside of the bottles and other detritus. Also, there are some known locations for juvenile wolfies ... they're not always "home", but the chances are pr...

I'm going to be down there in May, but my trip's going to be a bit broader. Fly into SJD, hop on a liveaboard for nine days out to the Socorros, then when we return will be renting a car in Cabo and driving the length of the Baja, leaving the car in Tijuana and heading over the border to San Diego f...

I knew I was going to love this group! Food and diving and are two favorite activities. For the dive sites along Ruston Way in Tacoma, the Fish Peddler (Pacific Seafood) has great fish and chips or coconut prawns and decent beer selection. They are on Dock street in the old Johnnies Seafood place n...

Re: Always Dive with a Buddy?

The mantra of "never dive alone" makes sense if you put some context around it ... things like assuming you have an adequately skilled dive buddy who would be able to help you out if you encountered a problem (many dive buddies are more a liability than an asset in times of trouble) ... or...
