Re: ThThTh 7/11 -- Slurpee Edition

I reached out to Andrea @ 8 Diving and she said that she thinks a few people saw a six-gill at Redondo last week, but that the visibility this week is still being described as "whale snot". Given that, I think @kneedeep and I are going to dive Three Tree Point tonight and hope that the viz...

Re: ThThTh 7/11 -- Slurpee Edition

I'm down for either one. Viz at Redondo on Wednesday last week was horrible, but who knows what will happen this week.

I think @kneedeep may be in as well.

ThThTh 7/11 -- Slurpee Edition

Curious if anyone is planning on diving tomorrow night at Redondo. I plan to be there at 6:30 as normal. Hopefully the visibility will be better than a slurpee.

I believe George and Dakota at 8 Diving are servicing ScubaPro regulators in house now — not sure about other brands. George is also great with drysuit seals and does them in house as well.

LOL. Sometimes when I am trying to get home to Magnolia in Seattle traffic, it feels like it is Mongolia. :)

Possible dive site in Magnolia?

During the -3 foot low tide today my daughter and I explored the south shore of Magnolia in Seattle. There is public access with a parking lot at the south end of 32nd Ave West. What I didn't realize is that there is an abandoned pipeline that was just exposed at the low tide. There were a lot of an...

Re: Viz Reports Thread

Really murky at Redondo tonight. Visibility was a couple of feet until it opened up at 60 feet — to 5 feet or so.

Still had a good time diving in the bottle field.

Lost compass at Redondo

Just wondering if anyone picked up a compass at Redondo after the 6/20 ThThTh dive. I can't find my Suunto SK6 (with the square housing) and last had it there. Thanks.

Re: Deep diving PADI certification in Seattle?

If you are willing to use a NAUI shop instead of PADI, I would talk to Andrea at 8 Diving in Des Moines. Their training is very reasonably priced and their instructors are excellent, going beyond the required materials to really emphasize safe and fun diving in our cold waters. If your step-daughter...

I dove with Quiescence back in March when I was down in SE Florida for a business meeting. We went our to Elbow Reef, too, and had a great time. Just curious if the guide you followed was Alexa? We dove with her and chatted with her about diving up here in the PNW. She is apparently from Oregon and ...

I can’t dive on Thursday due to travel, but I would appreciate a visibility report if you all do dive. I may try to get down to Redondo on Saturday morning if it is not too soupy.

Anemone riding a crab

Last night while in the bottle field at Redondo, we spotted a medium sized Dungeness crab that had a Swimming Anemone sitting on the top of its shell. The crab seemed oblivious (well, as oblivious as a crab can seem) to its passenger that was riding around on top of it as it walked along. Unfortunat...

Re: Sunnyside Beach and Sund Rock -- NAUI AOW Days 1 and 2

No, we didn't see any lobsters. Or wolf eels or octopuses for that matter, which I have heard are usually abundant at Sund Rock. I think we were a little task overloaded dealing with the visibility which kept me from really being able to look for critters. We're definitely going to go back to Sund R...

If Bubbles and Suds is not happening on 5/15, you may want to call 8 Diving in Des Moines and see if their weekly shop dive is happening on Wednesday at Redondo and whether you can join.

Sunnyside Beach and Sund Rock -- NAUI AOW Days 1 and 2

My wife (Laurie) and I are taking our NAUI Advanced Scuba Diver class with Clay from Eight Diving and did our first four of six dives this weekend. Saturday were were at Sunnyside Beach in Steilacoom for navigation and search and recovery dives. We met Clay in the parking lot at 9am and it was alrea...

Was a little better midday today at Redondo. Was <5' until 25' then maybe 15' below that. We saw a stubby squid, though (our first), so it was worth descending below the snot.

Re: Saturday April 20th Redondo Clean up dive, meet at 8am

Yep it is. Redondo is less current sensitive than many other sites, that's why we can pull it off. Redondo can sometimes have unexpected current, known to divers as the Redondo River. Usually it is short lived and at the bottom of a very large ebb, but not always. Just out of curiosity and future p...
