Re: DIR approach

[hijack]Scott, you actually remember?[end hijack] Hell, I remember, and I wasn't even there. The internet never forgets, right? I remember too. Legend of the Cobra? Everybody knows that story. There's even a children's book. There was once a wise philosopher known far and wide, for wherever ...

Re: Recommendations for Instructors in the Walla Walla area

Hi Waynne, There are actually multiple instructors teaching in Walla Walla. None are team-oriented. I'm just down the road in the Tri-Cities and would be happy to dive with him once he's certified. I'm always looking for team divers in this area. PM me if you want specifics on the instructors and co...

The origin of Team Diving

I knew I had read this but it took me a while to find exactly where it was in my library. Tonight I found the passage. It is from "The Silent World" first published in 1953. "After Dumas's ordeal on the pipe, we made a rule never to go down alone. It was the beginning of team diving, ...

If you would like to come out some time, just let me know! Not everyone can make our Wednesday dives. There are a number of us that like diving with people that are interested in further training. I'm sure more people will chime in. DO THIS. That is a full-caps Kees endorsement. He's fun and he's g...

Re: No Can light here, uh uh!

Good comments, Kitsap. I'll be even more blunt: a 7ft hose is not intended for our personal comfort and convenience. It's purpose is for saving someone else's life. If a diver makes the functionality and effectiveness of their backup/rescue gas-source a priority it shows they are thinking about more...

Re: What's going on with Redondo stairs/ entry?

Here is an Army Corp of Engineers treatise on toe scour. Anybody who goes to work on the Redondo stairs should read it. It has simple formulas for estimating scour depth as well as various structural approaches for dealing with it.

Re: DIY thread

Where are you guys getting the water tight canisters for housing the batteries in? The short answer is we build them. Most of us are using plastic pipe (PVC is most common) and fitting them with custom lids and bases made from PVC, acetal, HDPE, etc. Get a copy of this book . It's full of great can...

Re: What would I do if.....?

Thanks, Guys. I missed Richard's post but just got caught up. Your reasoning makes sense. My personal plan as I stated was swim down while dumping the butt dump with left hand and reach across to disconnect LP hose with right hand simultaneously. I always figured I could do that faster than shutting...

Re: What would I do if.....?

Good calls. I did not read carefully enough. I was visualizing LP hose popped off inflator. I agree, if the inflator comes off the corrugated hose, or the corrugated hose comes off the elbow that's a dangerous situation and the dive is over immediately. Regarding suit venting: I always check/adjust ...

Re: What would I do if.....?

Well thinking about how I would deal with a power inflator gone crazy would be to swim downward, dumping from the butt dump with my left hand, and switching to my bungeed back up and then shutting down my right post with my right hand. Why shut down vs. just reaching across with your right hand and...
