Dave,
Thanks for the advice. I tried it in my room and I think your approach may do the trick. I will give it a shot and see how it works.

Re: Canon G10 + Ikelite Setup + Focus Light Question
I shoot in AV mode and the flash is set to automatic via the Ikelite hot shoe connection. In TTL mode I get two flashes and in manual mode I get one. It just occurred to me that perhaps the strobe diffuser is causing the lighting issues. Do others use the diffuser? What is your experience with and w...

Re: Canon G10 + Ikelite Setup + Focus Light Question
Dusty, Thanks for the response and what you are saying makes logical sense. However, I wonder why they make focus lights that automatically turns off if it messes with the strobe's output? That is what I don't understand. Prior to getting a strobe I used my dive light located on my hand as a focus l...

Canon G10 + Ikelite Setup + Focus Light Question
I have the following setup: Canon G10 Ikelite Housing (1) Ikelite DS51 Strobe Big Blue 1x5 LED Focus Light I have been shooting in AV mode with the aperture set to F8 and the ISO set to 80. When I shoot with some daylight my photos turn out great. However, at night I am struggling a bit. I am using ...

Re: first pics for me w/ my G10
One more thing...
The port casts a shadow on the lower right part of the photo. Therefore, I tried to position the subject in the upper left part for the frame. Not too far because it will be overexposed but toward the upper left corner of the frame.

Re: first pics for me w/ my G10
I used the same setup for several dives. I used advice I got on this board and achieved some nice results. I shot in Macro mode / AV mode / F8 / ISO 200. And got as close to my subject as possible. Once you get a few good shots, I would shoot in both RAW and jpg. You can then conduct post-processing...

Re: Single Strobe Positioning
One of these days I'm going to get off my butt and put together a presentation for dive clubs on photo composition....methods and positioning that will turn "snap-shots" into "wall-hangers" that engender oooohs and aaaahs. Just have to somehow create the time! I cannot create ti...

Re: Single Strobe Positioning
John,
Great advice. I had never considered that. I have a shot of an octo that just doesn't seem right to me. Now I understand why. In consideration of your point. I would assume the light should touch the top of the subject and cast a shadow downward, is that a correct assumption?

Single Strobe Positioning
Just added a strobe to my setup. Before I was shooting with a G10 and Canon housing. Now I am shooting with a G10, Ikelite Housing, DS51 Strobe (with diffuser), and Nano Focus light. My first adventure last night was educational to say the least. After my first couple shots, my focus light would not...

Sculpin ID
Grunts and Buffalo Sculpin are easy to ID. However, I find it hard to differentiate between Great, Scalyhead, Red Irish Lords. Are there some keys to ID these Sculpins?
Thanks for your help.

Daddy Long Leg at TTN?
At about 60ft we ran into this critter. Looked like a daddy-long-leg spider. It folded its legs when I got close. Sorry the photos are a bit out of focus, this guy was tough to shoot. Hopefully Penders will post his shots too :-)
Any idea what it is?

I didn't even notice we found the same lumpie as Dusty2. That is pretty cool.

Re: New Years Night with Bob and his Lumpies
I followed the advice given on this board and went searching for the elusive Lumpie. It took a full 1-1/2 hour dive to find two, but we did. I must agree with other posters, the eel grass at Redondo have a ton of life. We also saw a Medusa Jelly, one of those winged slugs, and many sculpin. The Lump...

Two more questions. I have looked everywhere for the attached Jelly. Saw this at TTN and they light up.
Also how does one differentiate between a baby red octopus and baby GPO?

Gunnels, Gunnels everywhere
Diving at Redondo last night. Under the pipe a bit north of the pier I found a large group of gunnels. Had to share, I thought they were pretty funny
