Re: Hoodies on the Hood
So glad you were all able to go check them out! I was afraid they'd pull a disappearing act before anyone else got out there. I haven't found any information on longevity, but (like most other nudies) it is probably quite short. I'd be very surprised if it were more than a year, and for much of that...

The fish is a midshipman. The clouds of 'shrimp' are mysids.

Re: Hoodies on the Hood
Be sure to go when the tide is fairly high- they''re on the smaller, non-native eelgrass (Zostera japonica) so shallower than the usual eelgrass beds.

Re: Hoodies on the Hood
Sorry, forgot about the other dock. Go to the left of the boat launch.
The other interesting thing there yesterday were the huge numbers of small moon snails. I almost never see live juvenile moon snails, just big ones- but there were lots of golf ball sized ones cruising around.

Hoodies on the Hood
Jones'n for some hooded nudies but don't have the time and/or $$$ to go to God's Pocket? Head over to Twanoh State Park and go in to the left of the docks- there are hundreds of them in the eelgrass (just 10' at high tide). Also huge numbers of white lined dironas (big too), lots of Hermissenda. And...

Single black Force Fin XXL seeking companion
Broke (and subsequently lost) one of my fins on a recent trip in California. Anyone out there with a widow(er) fin that they would be willing to part with?

Sea spider pics for book cover
I was asked to supply a cover photo for an upcoming book on pycnogonids (sea spiders), but I know there have been much better shots posted here over the years than anything I've done. So pull out your prize cover girl (or guy) and send it to me and I'll forward them to the author for her to choose. ...

Very cool! Was this daytime or night?
Is it ok if I show this (with credit of course) to my class when I talk about fish/crustacean interactions?

Re: Back From Grand Cayman
Okay help me with this, one of my photos is of a tiny see fan looking critter. On the surface it looks like tiny cotton balls on the branches. This was about the size of a dime. I took it with the microscope mode on my camera, if you expand or zoom in this is a crazy looking animal! What is it, tel...

Re: Small tide change better visibility ???
Generally speaking, big tides stir things up more. When you have to dive a day with a large exchange, aim for the latter part of the flood as ebbing and low tides are typically poorer. When the vis in central sound goes to crap, head over to Hood Canal. Due to its much milder currents the plankton l...

Thanks for the heads-up. I'd planned to dive it Monday, because their web site said it opened at the beginning of March.

So far only known from southeastern Alaska to the Bering Sea- though I don't know if anyone has looked for them here yet. Everyone should look through their octo pics and see if they have any.
