Re: Dive Around the Clock 2013

So I'm signed up for 8pm... Do I need to sign up for more dive's if I'm thinking of multiple dives "around the clock"?

Jeff, the guy on the hill committed suicide around New Years... Funny enough, the parking situation cleared up when the junk he used to keep on the side of the road was cleaned up.

Re: Octopus Gardens is Awesome

That was us, we walked in just as Don was opening his door. I wasn't able to dive due a dead battery in my Shearwater. I'm sure that will be another post once I get that fixed.

Octopus Gardens is Awesome

Just when I was thinking that customer service was a 4-letter word for dive shops on or near the Kitsap Peninsula... after the dives on Saturday, one of my buddy's regulators, recently overhauled at a local Kitsap dive shop, was having a free flow issue. This would be the 3rd or 4th regulator that I...

Re: Northwest Dive and Travel Show Photo Contest Ringer

But it seems clear to me that the DNN is no longer relevant to our local community- and as a result, the expo will continue to suffer. So are you saying articles about the same 7 sites is irrelevant? Apparently the failure of this Year's show was the fault of a few local shops. I thought it was bec...

Re: Northwest Dive and Travel Show Photo Contest Ringer

I guess you could say I'm not surprised. You could watch the steady decline of both the expo and the northwest dive newsletter over the last couple of years. Both of which I feel are really no longer relevant to our diving community here in the PNW. About the most interesting thing about the show th...

Re: GPO Input needed!

How is restricting octopus harvesting at specified dive sites in any way interfering with spear fishing? It's already illegal to catch an octopus using a spear gun ... and always has been. ... I think most in the fishing community would understand and support reasonable restrictions on octopus hunt...

Re: GPO Input needed!

Now ask yourself if you as a diver would appreciate it if sport/spear fishermen demanded we leave popular sites. Point taken. No. But there is a difference... As a recreational diver, I hope to leave a dive site as I found it for others to enjoy. But if someone bags a rarely-seen animal, that means...

Re: GPO Input needed!

While living on Oahu it was a common site to see both spear fishermen and divers sharing the same sites. It's very possible for everyone to share these sites.

Now ask yourself if you as a diver would appreciate it if sport/spear fishermen demanded we leave popular sites.

Re: GPO Input needed!

I do not spearfish, but I did live in an area where the large fishing lobby did a pretty good job of limiting what and where you could dive (NE/Maine). We are losing dive spots here due to creosol cleanups, I would hate to start losing them because fisherman are feeling that their spots are being th...

Re: GPO Input needed!

I'm going to put out something unpopular, but what I really think needs to be brought up. It seems as if we are giving fisherman a pass. We set up areas were divers have showers, picnic tables, easy shore entries and other conveniences and allow topside fishing; but require spear fisherman to dive o...

Ethical question for the board

So Diver_dave posted a photo of a HUGE nudibranch that he harvested in Alaska. It looked as if the discussion was initially heading in the negative direction, but quickly turned into a jovial discussion of southern fried foods and the diets of indigenous Russians. Now we all remember the uproar with...

Re: How many Cu ft. for a drysuit bottle?

As one shop handed me back my freshly hydroed 3cf bottle, they remarked how dangerous it is to VIP my own tanks since there was no address on the (now expired) PSI VIP sticker to trace "bad gas" back to. The VIP sticker was right next to the "Argon do not breathe" sticker... Was...

Re: How many Cu ft. for a drysuit bottle?

Actually, the more i think of it, I don't think 'purge' would be the right word... When I use argon, I will fill and vent my suit a couple of times with argon. Like Rockfish was saying, if you want that insulation from the argon, you really need to get that air out.

Re: How many Cu ft. for a drysuit bottle?

I see people with those LP 8cuft tanks for argon, they just look a little too big for me. I am a big fan of my 6cuft tanks for argon, I'm usually around 3/4 dives, but I use a 13cuft tank for purging my suit first, that one lasts most of the winter.

Re: CF200 vs. FLX Extreme

I had a CF200 for years, and that thing was indestructible. When I got rid of it, my zipper had about 2 inches of Aquaseal and I was still mostly dry. Now I have a custom 450 and couldn't be happier. Its pretty rugged and I don't notice a lack of flexibility. If I were to do it again, I would stay w...

Re: Rebreather instructor training..

My understanding with those units are that if there are ANY issues, then you bail out to open circuit. For those types of units, I guess it is kinda OK, but anything more I would be looking for an instructor with quite a bit more experience. When the drager dolphin/atlantis/ray first came out, I was...

Re: Rebreather instructor training..

I'd have to say I agree with almost everyone. While I think a good instructor could transition well into CCR and teach it fairly quickly (75-100 hrs worth) there are also those skills that don't transition well from OC to CCR unless you are constantly practicing them. Another point that I don't thin...
