Re: Oahu in March/April
There's plenty of shore diving, it just depends on the waves... This time of year the North Shore is marginal, at best. Check out 'Electric Beach', west on H1. Your best bet is to call any dive shop (I recommend NOT calling Ocean Concepts) and asking how conditions are at a couple of sites.

Re: Missile Silo Dive 4-27
I do... I didn't really count that as a second dive. I know there is the 3rd silo, but my understanding is that was less accessible that the 2nd tunnel.
As far as doing a third dive, I'm pretty sure visibility would be fairly sucky by then.

Re: Missile Silo Dive 4-27
I think I was on those dives with you Mateo. I'm a big guy and I dove doubles on that trip. Essentially it is a real deep pool dive with poor filtration. The 2nd dive was a tight squeeze, where it was easier for me to go straight through instead of sideways (damn gut). Unless they have opened anothe...

Re: Titanium Regulators problems?
I recall at least one instance of combustion with a titanium regulator... But I couldn't give you any specifics. If I remember correctly they have a limit of 80%. Unless you are going to use it for your shallow deco bottle, I wouldn't worry about it. Personally, I think titanium is overrated in dive...

Re: A wing ding deal for new BP/W wannabes
I will try to convince you... I'm sure you've heard of the phrase "cheap is expensive". This is one of those cases. One of my buddies finally decided to get a BP/W and even went to a diveshop in the Kitsap area with a list he wanted from Dive Rite. Everything was ordered except for the win...

Re: A wing ding deal for new BP/W wannabes
The great thing about BP/Ws are that they are modular. With that being said, if you are diving doubles, then get a doubles wing. If you are diving a single tank, then buy a single tank wing. If you are diving both, then get one of each type. Trying a 'hybrid' or using the wrong type of wing is both ...

Re: A wing ding deal for new BP/W wannabes
Kinda looks like the spork of wings... can't use it the eat steak (37# of lift, too little for steel doubles in these waters) and you can't use it to eat soup (too wide/sloppy for singles). It looks like a good wing for double Al80's in a wetsuit.

Curious, what was the explanation given during your deco class? I thought no one taught use of 80% for your final deco gas anymore.

Otherwise, most agencies don't require a dive, and with NAUI you can do a large portion online. It's just one of my pet peaves when divers expect instructors to just give them a card.

Sorry, don't mean to start something... but this post kinda got to me...
All I see is "Just give me a card... I don't care about the instructor's liability".

Re: Al 40s-brand question
Why would you want to add weight to the tank? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the slightly buoyant characteristic when empty is to help move them out of the way. Your overall weighting should be such that with all your tanks near empty, you are neutral/slightly at your final stop.

There are a couple of us 'Rogue" instructors in the Kitsap area, who no longer teach at the Bremerton store. While I'm not instructing now, PM me and I give you contact info for an instructor in Port Orchard.

Re: Octo Harvesting: A question
Since I only have experience hunting octos in Hawaii, there the hunter is allowed to use a spear coax the octo out of the hole. The octo usually crawls out of the hole where it is then caught and quickly dispatched as I described before. Personally, I think that is a much more humane way, but again,...

Re: Octo Harvesting: A question
While hunting them in Hawaii, the quickest way to dispatch them was to flip their mantel... The other way was to literally bite the tako between the eyes (the 'experienced' locals seemed to prefer that way). Mind you, the biggest I got when I lived there was 10#, I wouldn't think of wrestling the gi...

Re: Transfill pressure between dissimilar tanks
Back to your original question, I started trans filling my rebreather bottles (HP23) with some HP149s. Right now I am getting about 2-400psi drop in my 149's after a fill for my rebreather. I'm finding its more for convenience than anything else (I'm a little over an hour away from Tacoma Scuba... r...
