Re: Yesterday at Sund Rock

Thanks Ron. Seeing what you do with a camera, a compliment means a lot! You zero’d in on the weak point of my kit. I use one of those hinky stick-on-velcro tabs with a fiber optics cable - It works but is less than ideal. Saving beer cans to pay for a TTL strobe I can hook to the hot shoe.

Yesterday at Sund Rock

A buddy and I hit Sund Rock yesterday (Friday) and had the place all to ourselves. It was a great day to tryout my new camera and housing, a Canon G12 w/Ikelight housing and a recycled (from my water-logged Sealife setup) Intova flash. First, there were ocoto’s and wolfeels under every ledge and und...

Re: Entry level camera

I'm looking to upgrade my SeaLife 800 and thinking of the Canon G12 too. Question for those of you experienced with the G12, is the Ikelight housing really worth more than 3 times the price? I see the Canon is rated to 130' and the Ikelight to 200 but I really don't get much below 100 fsw very often.

Wondering if you saw any salmon? Thinking about it, I don't believe I've ever seen salmon or steelhead on a dive.

Re: Does anyone own this book?

LCF, thanks for your opinion it's appreciated. I'm doing a bandito charter up there weekend of 8/13 but I probably won't have a chance to meet up and thumb through your book (I'm reluctant to loan out books too!). Renoun, thanks for the clarification, it's equally appreciated - but yeah, first glanc...

Re: newport dive video

I built some little brackets to hold dive lights on the forward end of my speargun that could probably be adapted for a video camera. Aaron, if you get a gun I'll build you a camera bracket - we need to get you "multitasking"! ;)

Thanks for posting this. I'll see if I can't get some our Salem divers to come up for this and will RSVP when I get a firmer head count.

I'm pretty sure she would be willing to pay someone to try something like this. How would I go about finding someone or a couple people who would be willing to try this? Detroit is about an hour east of Salem where I live. Although I've personally never dove it I know several who have and the repor...

It's actually Justin from Blue Element Scuba in Salem: Arron was his dive buddy and has a great video too with an opposing view of the wolfie trying to eat Justins camera. If that had happened to me I think that "Dry Suit" would be a relative term! ;)

Re: Coastal Dive June 22-23?

Hey Blues - Are you married to June 22 and 23? Blue Element is chartering a boat for June 24 (Friday) for an offshore dive. If they still have room it would be WAAYYYYY better than anything you'll find in one of our bays. It is an advanced dive but if the conditions are good and your comfortable in ...

Thats great Aaron, looking forward to your trip report and video. Did you guy's dive near where we dove last Friday? Re: 2 Tank Dive Charter out of Newport this Saturday (4/30)

I'll be real curious as to the ocean conditions for Saturday and how the boat ride is as the forecast looks to be rougher than what we had last week. I agree tho, it would be great to have some charters operating off our coast.

Have a great trip bud, look forward to your report and videos!

Isn't there a site with online nautical charts that would give us an idea of the depth? I thought I had one bookmarked but I can't find it.

That would be great! I should be up there about 9 and will be in either a black Honda crv with a DAN sticker in the back window or possibly in my partners silver Nissan (I think) 4 door truck. BTW, Whites is hosting a bbq lunch and if you register prior to the event they have t-shirts too. Look forw...

Just an FYI Whites is scheduled to be at Redondo tomorrow for a dry suit demo http://www.whitesdiving.com/sport-diving/events I don't know how many divers total are signed up for this but there are at least 6 - 8 of us from Salem. I'm planning on diving there unless it's a zoo then I'll probably loo...
