Re: Mikes Beach
Some friends and I stayed there for a long weekend this summer and I had the opportunity to see several rooms and cabins. Some are nice enough, having recently been refurbished, others were horrible! What you get will depend on luck of the draw or negotiating with the front desk when you reserve you...

I know your right Curt, but at this time I'm just enjoying both my children as they become young adults. It's funny how we as parents suddenly get a bunch smarter when our kids leave the teen years behind.

Daughter ~n~ Dad, Dive weekend
My daughter completed her Open Water late last month and this past weekend, prior to her getting busy with the fall term of college, I had the privilege of taking her on her first “real” dive trip. Before meeting up with friends she and I started the dive weekend Friday afternoon at Sund Rock - divi...

Re: I need some help.
FWIW -
I would add one general photo tip for shooting multiple flashes. As a rule you would have one flash set about half the power of the main flash: This gives you fill light but still some shadows and gives your photo's contrast and depth.

Re: Canon Powershot S100 - photos?
Janna, here's an excellent site with recommendations for camera settings. I used these settings for my G12 and have had great results. BTW, I see Canon has another new camera - the PowerShot G1 X - but it's spendy!

Yuk! The tides are not in your favor. I'd plan on an early splash and get out before the outgoing tide cranks up. Something you might consider is to bring a non-diver to let you out at the upper end and drift to where you want out at - I've never done it but know others have. http://www.protides.com...

a reprieve from the rainy-day blues
Only a few weeks ago I was enjoying warm, sunny Cozumel - and with the recent drenching rains and winds we've had I've been reminiscing about the trip. We'll, since I cant go back anytime soon I can still dream - and what better way to dream then revisiting pic's. We had a terrific DM by the name of...

Re: What Fins Do You Use & Why?
My own 2psi - I can't see much different between the f1 and turtles when frog kicking, helicopter turns or doing a reverse kick but when I'm trying to swim fast and using a scissor kick the f1's tend to push me into a head down position. For that reason I have a slight preference for the turtles. I ...

Welcome sether60. There's a growing contingency of us from Salem who are also heading in the tech direction. And being "hard core", we frequently make the 3 hour treck up north. We also dive the Oregon bay's and off shore Oregon when conditions permit. Stay in touch.

Re: Shallow water snorkeling sites?
The topics of fins are well covered on this forum and in others but that's ok, it's an important topic. If your plan is to go into scuba diving then you need to decide where you'll be diving and what kick is best for your location. For example; split fins are a popular item in the dive magazines and...
