Re: Hello, divers!
Mark's on NWDC now? There goes the neighborhood... :) Mark you'll find this board is chock full of great people, awesome dive buddies, fascinating dive stories, and a metric ton of absolute wackjobs :) I can't think of a better place to fall headfirst into NW cold water diving. If anyone needs a div...

Re: Nikonos Stuff
Holy cow. Guys and gals -- this is an incredibly generous offer. Most people think the 15mm Nikonos is the best wide angle underwater lens ever made -- it makes our other lenses look like cell phone cameras in comparison. I really really really hope someone who could make use of this gets to take it...

Nice work Bob! I think I like the first one best -- good depth of field and spot on focus.
Let's go out and dive again together soon!

A study in motion -- Hermissenda nudibranchs in eelgrass
Last weekend Bob Bailey and I hit up Edmonds Underwater Park for some shallow water photo practice. While the visibility sucked (5' or less), we were nevertheless greeted with an excellent array of subjects to shoot. I was particularly interested in working with the large numbers of Hermissenda cras...

Tubesnout eggs
Bob Bailey and I hit up Edmonds last weekend for some shallow water photo work. During the dive I noticed tons of clusters of eggs -- most were still immature and rather boring subjects, but a rare few appeared to have gold flecks within them. These gold flecks, as you might be able to guess, were t...

Re: EUP Nudifest
Thanks Dusty.
The blue/purple highlights in the Cockerell's photo are actually a characteristic of a specific type of kelp. You'll know it when you see it -- it's very reflective. As long as it's sort of irregular and not stretched out, then you get that sort of effect.

EUP Nudifest
As others have recently noted, EUP is currently exploding with nudibranchs and other macro life. During our last dive there on Thursday morning, my buddy Mark and I noticed a ton of nudibranch species (Flabellina, Leopard, alabaster, barnacle-eater, Cockerell's, etc). Even more spectacular was the s...

Thanks for the kind words everyone. We are super excited about this, and while it may curtail my diving to some degree, rest assured I will not give up on it! Also rest assured that I will be posting plenty of pics of the little squirt to Facebook

Speaking of Father's Day
I just wanted to share with my dive community friends that I will be joining the ranks of fatherhood later this year. Our little boy is due around Thanksgiving later this year, and I can't wait :) We found out roughly 12 hours before leaving for Fiji, so here's a little teaser shot from the beach. h...

Re: Photo workshop with Scott Lundy
Aww shucks -- thanks Lynne! It was a fun afternoon -- we were able to go over some good topics and talk about the joy/woes of underwater photography, and while the viz didn't exactly cooperate, there were some interesting subjects to shoot. Lynne you did a great job of absorbing the info and applyin...

Re: Fiji: Jewel of the South Pacific
Curt I totally agree about the people -- I have never met a more friendly and likable bunch than the Fijians I met on this trip. Driving along the one major road on Savusavu, we noticed a man walking the other way. He was very very well built, shirtless, and carried a machete (the locals say that if...

Re: Fiji: Jewel of the South Pacific
Ray, despite what you may have been told, there is indeed diving in the world that does not require a drysuit (or even a wetsuit!). I don't know why anyone would want to dive it, but it is there. :) Actually I must admit that I've always been a "cold water" guy -- if pressed I would always...

Fiji: Jewel of the South Pacific
As some of you know, I just returned from a fabulous trip to Fiji. We spent 7 days on the less populated island of Vanua Levu, and I dove on both local sites and at the world-renowned Namena Marine Reserve. The diving was spectacular, and the diversity of life was truly staggering. From big stuff li...

Looks like you're doing just fine Bob
Try playing a little with the levels in lightroom -- specifically increase the highlights and lights a touch to make the image "pop" -- otherwise they look great!

Okay so apparently "lundysd being awesome" just brings up a bunch of crappy dive photos for the first few pages. Searching for "slundy being awesome" on the other hand brings up this gem... http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_srOhGcGHvik/Sfk1u57SbzI/AAAAAAAACdA/KQBxUcFLIeo/s800/babyfinger....

Thanks Lamont -- I'm sure it wasn't easy, but now perhaps the family and friends can have some closure.
