One suggestion: 400 degree peanut oil. Fry the bird. Brine and fry.

I know Dave... *** When I have seen him in the water, he was a good divemaster, a good diver but he likes to push things to the limits and forgets about others' safety. I have talked to several charter operators who say the same thing about him. He is a "cowboy" diver" that takes cha...

The Tank Pimp has some tanks for sale

Somehow, I've become a clearing house for tanks in the greater Seattle area. Here's something that was recently passed on to me: A pair of nice PST E7-120s, hydro date is late 2004. These are the taller HP tanks made by PST, they have good buoyancy characteristics (neutral when empty) and are galvan...

dsteding, if you can see Elliott Bay from work then we should grab lunch sometime. I'm in the P-I Building. For sure Calvin. I'm up at the top of One Union Square, so not as close to the water as you, but we should grab lunch at some point anyways. I also live pretty close to your work, at Second a...

GD, I'd say that the vis was a little better at some places, but yeah, Nailer is right, the first 20' it was pretty bad 5' or less, then next 20 opened up to maybe 10-12 at the most. Deeper it was a little better than that. It would be challenging to take a class diving. Based on the view out of my...

It's a waste ... tragic, senseless, and totally preventable. And the people who need the most to "learn" something from it won't even be listening ... ... Bob (Grateful Diver) I agree Bob, this is totally tragic and senseless. As an aside, at times like this I am very grateful to have the...

Shouldn't that read 1988 (when they stopped using the bad alloy, IIRC)?

Anyone out there 6'9" and 160 pounds and need a drysuit

How about this one, with the exhaust on the right shoulder:

Nailer- It is down in Cove 1, and there are a couple lines going to it (thanks Lamont and Peo, we used them last night). I'm not sure which is the "north line" you are refering to-the Monolith is south of the I-beams. How we got there was from Cove 1, we dropped in shallow water, went down...

The Monolith

Finally got a chance to go to it this evening with Richard and his wife. Saw three octos, a skate, a stubby squid, a bunch of gunnels, a sailfish sculpin, and a bazillion rat fish. The monolith itself had evidence of something really big living under it, there were a bunch of crab shells lying aroun...

Yeah, you are right there.

Another option could be the Dive Rite Nitek Plus, the watch-style one. I think it has gauge mode, and is around $300.

Saw a special posted on TDS re Nitek computers for $175, but it doesn't have gauge mode:

If all you want is gauge mode and average depth, another option is the Suunto D3, I know a lot of the depth-averaging, non-computer using, deco-incurring types around here use those as simple bottom timers.

The Suunto Vyper is a nice computer, I think the Gekko is the same without the downloadable option . . . and is therefore a bit cheaper.

I agree with you, I wish the Uwatec bottom timers were closer to $100 rather than $200.

Salvo can't be beat for dive lights. Whenever they get an order or something in for repair it ships back to you a day or two later. They'll also cross-ship, work on lights from competitors and their customer service is very geared towards getting you in the water with functioning dive gear right aw...

Priceless rant, Bob. For the record, whenever I put that suit on I think about how ND could have possibly built it for you. It is still tall on me, if you hang the thing up, the neck seal comes to the top of my head. That being said, it has been a great suit, 40+ dives on it so far with no complaints.

For sale: Koplin Large SS backplate/Harness

This is the larger pattern plate, will fit anyone taller than 6 feet or so. Comes with a rigged hogarthian harness, if you are really large, you may need to replace the webbing (~$10). About 10 dives on it, I'm switching to a different plate. Retail on the plate/harness is $130 with about $40 for th...

Hi Doug, I didn't mean to suggest that you were not a thinking diver. I know that you are in fact a thinking diver so some of my comments were meant to be general in nature and just to make this a more interesting conversation. I agree that newer divers should take the conservative approach in all ...
