Re: Looks like a good deal on a dive boat

Someone offer this guy $6500. http://www.rib.net/forum/f47/22-polaris-rhib-for-sale-in-british-columbia-41784.html Take the jockey seats out and a tank rack in and put a 200hp + and 9.9 on that pod. Probably needs some sort of ladder if used for diving. That would make a nice dive boat-probably $15...

Re: Need ideas for dive boat!!! Help me before the wife chan

Mattley mentions outboard replacement cost, but that is something to be thinking about in more detail. A "cheap" boat may not be that after you repower it. And, even a seemingly good motor can be money pit. I had to repower my boat--bought from a local somewhat prominent diver--months afte...

That is my thinking. We should be out over the shilshole barges in the next couple of weeks, I'll report back.

Re: Chartplotter/Fishfinder combos

My buddies just put a h-bird 5 series on their boat, color gps/sounder with the HD and down imaging option. The DI looks slick for diving, I'll let you know about it once I get out on their boat. I know Richard has a h-bird on his boat, I had a lowrance on mine. All seem to work well.

The ones who really need to consider exposure protection along with kayak folks are the paddle board people. I've seen them head out of Cove II this winter in just regular cloths and no life jacket. It's this kind of ignorance that causes how law makers to make mommy knows best decisions like every...

Ecology's new "Eyes over Puget Sound" program

For those of you wanting to better understand things like blooms and mixing of waters (all of which have an effect on things like vis and diving conditions) check out Ecology's new Eyes Over Puget Sound program. If you are soliciting dating advice from a bunch of scuba divers (people who prefer to be underwater with a reg in their mouth) you are in trouble. Just sayin'.

What is the "Ekman transport"? Yes it was from the northwest, almost directly onto the beach.

Re: This doesn't sound good...

In terms of raising money: a while back I started a thing where people sold dive gear and donated the proceeds. Masks, fins, the extra stuff you had lying around. Paypal went to one place, dive gear got sent off to the purchaser. I think that would be a good idea here if someone is willing to take t...

Re: Scuba diver "wrongful death" law suit in WA

I remember this death, but the exact area of their dive is a bit muddied in my mind. Does anyone recall? Was it by shore or charter? Otherwise I have no idea of the merits of the claims. It was charter, and it was off Northwest Island, just off Rosario Beach IIRC. - Janna I guess I find it interest...

Re: Scuba diver "wrongful death" law suit in WA

I'm not sure that there's a whole lot to discuss here unless someone has direct and reliable information on what really happened that day. It'll be up to the courts to figure this out. I'll be watching for the verdict with interest though. Yeah, I'll be keeping an eye on this one too.. I have a fee...

Re: Re: Wreck of the Steamship Dix

I couldn't resist the temptation to run a dive plan for this one. Basically, 12 minutes on the bottom equals just under 6 hours in the water decompressing. I didn't even bother trying to come up with an OC bailout plan. I think Scott dived it the smart way....warm and dry, at 1 ATA. Wimp. Ok, its o...

Re: Anchor Rope

Another trick we use (on the anchor or shot line) is to put a lift bag on the line as we ascend, with just enough air to keep the anchor in place. This makes pulling the anchor/shot easy as it will help lift itself to the surface as you start to pull. Good Luck, That is a good one, particularly use...

Re: Anchor Rope

What everyone else says. For what it is worth, my RIB (18.5 feet, so bigger than yours) held fine--even when surfing--with 18 feet of 5/8 inch chain and 3/8 inch rode with a 11 pound Delta anchor. For diving, I used the same setup, and carried 300 feet of rode. While conventional wisdom may be 6:1 s...

What everyone else said, but in your back pocket if you can't track him down, this will likely be covered under your uninsured motorist provision of your policy. Usually this means a lower deductible and no hit on your premiums.

Bumpity bump. All this talk of RIBs and boat diving, someone needs this thing. I just replaced the old aluminum fuel tank with a new poly tank, and replaced fuel lines at the same time. Still $14,000.
