It's been a while

Since I posted a dive report here. Chris' recent dive recap out here got me a bit motivated. Figured I'd post a report and see if maybe a few more tech divers want to mosey out here for a week or so. :-) There is a coal ship that sunk over 100 years ago about 1,000 feet away from the Sea Tiger wreck...

Re: H20doctor Diving Vacation On Oahu

Curt,

The Mahi has recently collapsed even more since when I arrived last year.

The front end is severed and completely impassable now.

Re: re-breathers

Rebreather diving is not for those who lack the ability to maintain attention to detail. I'll even take it a step further... Neither is open circuit tech diving. Deadly pilot error happens on OC as well. In the last 2 years, I know of 2 deaths from Ox tox on open circuit. One was a tech instructor b...

Re: re-breathers

Matt, I think you are getting a little harsh here. I am sharing my opinion, which may not be derived entirely from 1st hand experience, but rather from talking to many divers, and asking them about it. . This just gets better by the post. There are 2 parts to your statement above. 1. That you are a...

re-breathers

Overall, I don't give a crap how their unit works, if there's a problem they get an OC reg (mine or their bailout). I don't care what green vs orange vs red blinking lights mean. I am not going to be attempting to salvage their loop into something breathable. Simple, end of story. : You mean to tel...

Re: re-breathers

Not many. I am very recently certified in technical diving. I can only share my opinion, which is limited. Yet, I do not think this makes what I am saying invalid, or terribly ill-informed. I might ask, how would you view my comments if I had 200-300 dives in the 130-199 range? I would view them mu...

my CCR takes me an hour before and an hour after the dive to get through all the pre and post dive work and checks, etc. its a pita. Holy shit. What unit are you diving? I sure as hell would not dive one either if I had 2 hours of my day invested into pre and post dive maintenance and checks. How l...

Re: re-breathers

2. No, I do not go on dives to the 200'+ realm. Does this mean I don't want to ever, no. But I stand by what I have said. I still see very little reason for a rebreather above that depth. As you can see, this is a continuing dialog within the GUE community, I (and many others) disagree with Koos (w...

DUE is GUE Tec 1 certified....around 20-21 years old.... I'd bear the age in mind in this discussion imo....he is passionate as we all were at that age.. Maybe I was, it was so long ago, I can't remember. Why not, since we are bringing training agencies into it... The GUE divers I tend to get along...

Re: re-breathers

A bottle of UHP here is 500 bucks. Industrial grade is 400.

That works out to about $1.20 a cubic foot or so... Which is way to expensive for me to be blowing it out with every breath.... For the number of deep dives I do.

Re: re-breathers

That is to say that one does not need helium above 200 feet. Newsflash! There is such a thing as open circuit trimix. I personally believe below 100 warrants trimix. And no, you do not need a rebreather to use it. and FWIW- sure, if you find yourself doing hours down at 200', maybe a breather is a ...
