Re: Regulator Thoughts?

To continue playing devil's advocate, how do you know it breathes harshly? Have you compared it to anything else? FWIW the experience on the diver end of the reg is largely determined by the 2nd stage. The 1st stage has to be in some poor shape to influence actual breathing experience. If you have a...

Re: Regulator Thoughts?

I guess I wonder why you think you need to upgrade? What is the Oceanic not doing for you? Certainly nothing wrong with SP or Atomic besides a profound emptying of the wallet. I dive a SP MK14 +M109 but it's like 15+ years old. But I've dove Mares MR12, Oceanic (various), Sherwood, Aqualung, and the...

Dens must be tight. First old wolf eel was kind of chewed up.

Try lowering your tank if your empty buoyancy seems OK. Couple inches can make a difference.

Re: Wet suits for the sound

There are some people who swim in bathing suits in the Sound, YEAR ROUND, and last for 30-60" Other people won't wade in the Sound in the summer. Cold tolerance can be pretty personal. If you are freaking out long distance....get a drysuit. Remember, a 7mm suit at 60+ feet is certainly NOT 7mm ...

Re: looking for a NiMH battery charger for Dive-X Sierra

What's the operating voltage? You can try 'zapping' it. What likely happened, especially in older packs, is there is always a ...weakest....cell. High performance NiMh cells tend to have a higher discharge rate than lower performance (that's a generalization-quality matters the most). As the cells d...

Re: looking for a NiMH battery charger for Dive-X Sierra

Not impossible, but not the conventional way to do it and makes it more complex without any advantage. Li-on has a MAX charge level and gets nasty if much overcharged, or excessively discharged. NiXX simply "tops out" at ~1.5v/cell and the rest is shunted off as heat. As long as the heat i...

Re: looking for a NiMH battery charger for Dive-X Sierra

If you can find someone with the same DPV it would be useful to test another known good charger. Depending on how the charger works it could be a battery problem. If yu are pretty sure it's charger related this might well work. At 15S (15 cell in series) it should not have much issue with a 24v syst...

And....people pay to go dive with them at Hornby Island and Race Rocks, MOBS of them. I've had one spend 30 minutes about 10 feet away watch my wife and I carve a pumpkin underwater. Obviously curious, but not hostile in any way. The packs at Race Rocks were pretty fascinating at first but we soon t...

Re: Coverting regulator back to Yoke before a trip

I convert every time. It's really not a big deal....if you have a couple special tools, the yolk wrench being the hardest one. Doesn't hurt anything if you aren't ham handed with tools and devices. It's basically a bolt with some O-ring seals. I do have an adapter. The only use it's gotten is on loan.

There is a general anathema about being over weighted but I happily 'suffer' and extra couple pounds so I'm not seriously shrink wrapped during safety stop when I'm already cold.

Aren't HOGs Apex copies?
Parts interchangeable?
Don't own either brand, but I'm under that impression for some reason.
(FWIW, I do my own regs - ScubaPro, Mares, Aqualung, Oceanic)

Back up camera. We now know what your priorities are.

Are sparkle shrimp really a different species? I've long suspected they are a different version of a more common species.

Re: entry level gear

The first thing you want is a drysuit....period. More dive gear packages have been wasted on divers that spend all their money on 'packages', and dive in a wetsuit. Almost no one makes it long term around here without a drysuit. The last thing you 'need' is a computer. Aluminum tanks will likely to ...

For years, literally years I've had great results from Lake City Lighthouse. But, it all depends on WHO is filling the tanks. They have a new manager, seems like a good guy, so we'll see. Re: A good fill in the Seattle area?

Why is this such a chronic problem? You'd think the shops would get a clue. Tank fills are their most consistent and common interaction with the established customer. Inconsistent and poor fills don't give a good impression, especially as costs go up.

Seems since everything has gone digital people have forgotten NW Shored Dive by S. Fischnaller. It's not longer in print but you can get used copies. He's got a good section on how to figure out currents and lists current corrections for lots of dives. Personal warning - Plan your Dive site seems to...

Guys, use the same calculations as you do for day island. And go on small exchange days. Titlow has a reverse current. According to NWSD-Fischnaller it slack before flood minus 5", slack before ebb plus 33". I have no idea what the velocity ratio would be but the afternoon exchange, assum...

Might get better. River has dropped a lot and the projections are to keep it that way, at least for now. I have no idea what the delay is between a big dump and Skyline viz being affected. Neither do I have a sense of how long it takes to clear things up. Burrows bay is a pretty big shallow area. It...

Nice to meet you both. Saw you go by about a 1/3 of the way through the dive. Yeah, lots of fresh water brought the viz down to 10-15'. They dumped the dams and brought the river up just shy of flood level just a few days ago. I didn't expect great viz. All the sea cucumbers (oranges, reds, blacks, ...
