I used to be a devotee of the Discovery Channel's "Shark Week" a long time ago.....back when they had reputable scientists discussing shark behavior, migration, anatomy, diet, etc. A few years back they switched it over to the "thrill-seekers" and most of the films shown from tha...

Hey, Jan!

Welcome to the club!

The rest of you may not know it yet, but you're in for a treat! Jan is an oustanding underwater photographer who combines his skill with the camera with cartoons! As hard as that might be to visualize, it's a perfect blend!

An excellent article, Bob.......it reminds me very much of a conversation regarding similar events that you and I had about a week or so ago. All too often the discussion and interest is completely focused on the tragic victim of such accidents, with little notice taken of those who attempted the re...

PNW Marine Life Identification resources

Well, since this is the "Diving Education" forum and I'm a big believer in self-education, let's talk BOOKS! :book: A while back on another board I posted a list of the books I have acquired over the years that cover marine identification here in the Pacific Northwest. Over time my collect...

John - I want to go to Lake Cresent... if Bill's out of town when I finally get all my gear together, will you come with me?! From what I've seen from the boat, the vis is amazing. Is there anything to see at recreational limits?! Remember....I'm out of the water until December. Yes, there are thin...

What's standard length? I've wondered why 7' too - why not 8' or 6'??? 7 foot is widely regarded as the standard for long hose configuration. You can get any length you desire if you're willing to pay for it.....but why? The 7 foot long hose, while initially utilized for cave diving, has become the...

John, Nailer and I were able to do such a thing (swimming/navigating while sharing air), but I wonder if having an octopus that is set up for the buddy to breathe would've made this easier. To have it right side up, we had to be somewhat twisted around with me right side up and nailer swimming back...

You guys might want to practice sharing air while swimming along a compass azimuth. After all, sharing air in an OOA situation is merely the first part of the equation.....the other part is being able to calmly and efficiently share your breathing gas while "getting out of Dodge" and movin...

Kudos to Calvin and Nailer!!!!! It's a good idea to practice skills that might be a wee bit (ahem) unpleasant as well. (Hopefully Calvin will forgive me for this, but here goes....) When the club had its get-together at Calvin's office a couple of weeks ago I recall him saying that he REALLY hadn't ...

i think the notations on that sonar image may be implying that it lies in 86m of water with 26m of relief off the bottom... so ranging from 200-280 fsw in depth... bit deeper than i'm certified for right now... Looking at those numbers on the sonar image, I think you're correct. My certifications w...

I'm told that the keel rests at 80 meters....aka 262 FSW for us Yanks.

Of course, something as huge as an aircraft carrier sitting upright would extend up above 200 feet, I'm sure.

As I come across more info I'll post it.

WWII German Aircraft carrier found and identified by divers

I just saw this link on Rebreather World and find it absolutely riveting! My two big loves are diving and history and this fits BOTH just perfectly! A part of history fades away....

I just saw this on msn. US Navy Master Diver Carl Brashear has passed away at age 75. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14031320/from/RS.4/ I'm certain that it will be of interest to those of you interested in diving history, or even if you just enjoyed the film about him, "Men of Honor". - John
