Re: Galapagos!

You must have been there about the same time I was. I was down from October 6-13 on the Aggressor boat. Ours was organized by the dive shop I got certified with in San Diego. I think we signed up way back in 2012. We only saw whale sharks on 1 dive, however. One was a small juvenile around 20ft, an...

Re: Galapagos!

is the current always an issue there with these types of islands , or are there trips when the current is doable ? this is an amazing trip , and quite a journey to get there ., i have looked at trips out to CoCos islands on the aggressor fleet , and most divers seems to come back with excellent rev...

Galapagos!

I had the good fortune of completing a bucket list trip a few weeks ago, a dive trip to the Galapagos. Easily the most amazing adventure I've ever gone on. The trip was organized by Olympia Underwater Sports nearly three years in advance. I jumped at the chance of course, as did a total of 12 divers...

Float Arms for Ikelite

Anyone have any suggestions on adding floats to a pair of Ikelite strobe arms? There seem to be a number of options out there, from $ to $$$$, so I'm curious if anyone has some practical experience to share.

Thanks!

Hood Canal Phytoplankton visible from Space

I was thinking of taking an out of state friend to Sund Rock next week, but when I saw this posted it gave me second thoughts. http://komonews.com/weather/scotts-weather-blog/huge-hood-canal-phytoplankton-bloom-visible-from-space Does anyone have a recent viz report for Sund Rock or Hood Canal in ge...

anyone seeing Flabellina trilineata (Three-lined Aeolid)?

I have a friend from California who is a slug researcher doing genetic testing on Flabellina trilineata. She'll be coming up to the Seattle area later this month to try and collect a few. Has anyone seen this slug at dive sites around Puget Sound? I've found them in large numbers recently at Titlow ...

Re: Fish hiding in a jelly

Hey Dan, I've heard that juvenile Pollock (cod) are what's hiding in the tentacles of jellies in our part of the world. - Janna Yesterday I was diving at Redondo when a large Lions Mane came cruising by. I checked the bell and found a Juvenile Pollock playing hide and seek in the tentacles. Here's ...

I got a cheap (aka:free) wide angle attachment for my 18-55mm lens on my Nikon D3200 and I have been having so much fun with the wide angle, but the quality sucks. I'm now looking for a real wide-angle lens but keep running across more add-ons. any suggestions on what I should be looking for? For u...

Re: Monterey Bay

And video :) the viz and conditions looked great. I even heard the tropical "crackling" sounds. Did you use a fisheye for the video? The video was shot with a GoPro camera, so its a 'fisheye' above water but slightly less so underwater. The crackling sound is present in just about every d...

Monterey Bay

The last few years I've been fortunate to go down to Monterey at least once each year and have hooked up with a local seaslug expert, Brenna Green and her husband Brian. A few weeks ago I spent a couple of days diving with them on the Beach Hopper, my favorite Monterey dive charter. a couple of dive...

Re: Blakely Rock 6/26

I'm thinking that your tiny little nudibranch in the last photo is a Eubranchus rupium. The cerata don't have the grape-cluster look of a Doto, and there are flecks of white. That suggests rupium. But that's just a guess. These tiny guys can drive you crazy!

We went to Fox Island West Wall on monday. Poor viz and some stiff currents, at least by FIWW standards. On this dive we found only one Opalescent, but it was a beaut! [img]https://photos.smugmug.com/Underwater-Photography/Marine-Life-of-the-Pacific/Nudibranchs/Opalescent-Nu...

Cool! judging from the size and shape, I'd say that's a likely candidate

a couple of nudibranch IDs

I was down in Monterey last week to do some diving on the Beach Hopper and I came across these two critters that I couldn't completely identify. Can anyone help? Fish hiding in a jelly

I found this interesting Egg Yolk jelly with a fish swimming around inside its bell at Monterey Bay last Saturday. The fish didn't seem to be harmed by the stinging tentacles and as you can see in the video it was actually using the body of the jelly as a way to hide from my camera. Any guesses as t...

nearly new BARE neoprene drysuit

I'm selling a BARE D6 Pro neoprene drysuit for $675. I bought it in January 2015 to use as a backup suit, but I haven't used it more than a dozen times. (I decided to get a lightweight shell for travel). The suit was $1100 new. Its a size "Large", with neoprene neck and wrist seals for eas...

There were White and Orange-tipped Nudibranchs Janolus fuscus everywhere at Titlow on Monday. update on injured wolf eels

I was back at Sund Rock yesterday and found the two wolf eels that I'd seen a month earlier. Their injuries seem to have come a long way in healing in this relatively short time. They are still in the rocks at the base of the north wall, but they seem to have shifted their dens. before https://photo...
