Re: TIL There has only been one shark attack in Washington since 1900

I was punctured in the hand by a Spiny Dogfish one day when I caught him and was trying to release him back. There's a reason for their name... Bled quite freely all over my kayak. Darn little goober of a fish!

Re: Looking For A Snorkel/Free Diving Dive Buddy

I've only snorkeled in Hawaii, but when I sold off my cold-water gear I did keep mask/snorkel/fins/weights. My plan is to try snorkeling here locally, using my kayak fishing drysuit. I can't take the weight of tanks and such anymore, but i still want to have my play time... I've seen some fascinatin...

Frickin' Amazing! I can't pick a favorite out of the whole bunch... Those are truly wall-hangers (epic shots)! Tryouts for the SSDC perhaps? (Salish Sea Dance Company) =D>

Great pics! As someone else with a geology degree, I'd have been one of the people trying to look down into the hot orange cracks! Sad as it is when people are displaced by Madam Pele, what's happening now is frickin' awe-inspiring (and the HVO folks are learning a lot from it).

Re: Free lead, yes there’s a catch.

What the heck would rec diving vs Tech diving care about the lead? It's bits of incompressible metal sewn up in cloth bags - nothing that would change with depth or time... Curiousity is killin' this cat!

Epic indeed...

My sister did one of those snorkeling excursions when she and my mom did a 2-week drive around the island a few years ago, even that would've been fantastic!

Re: Brand New Diver

Welcome! what a great time to be in Maui... I happen to have a drysuit up for sale, since I'm not really able to deal with the weight of cold-water gear required very well anymore. Thread with pics is at https://nwdiveclub.com/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=26923 - it's a neoprene suit rather than a shell...

<NedFlanders>Okely Dokely, thank-fiddly-anks! </NedFlanders> I am planning to take the boat out in the Harbor tomorrow and do a bit of field testing (fish awhile, then go for a swim and check out flotation, comfort, dryness, etc...). For the first run I'm just going to use my fleece long johns base ...

Re: XL WEEZLE EXTREME PLUS

Hailing frequencies open... Jess, since these undergarments are meant to keep you warm underwater for extended periods, do you think there's a risk of overheating if you are using them under a thin drysuit at or near the air/water interface (say +5-30fsw...)? Say, for kayak fishing and/or some kayak...

My cold-water gear needs a new home... BC, Drysuit, 2xHP100

For a variety of health-related reasons, my shoulders (and associated nerves) just can't take the weight of all the cold-water gear needed to dive up here anymore. So, time to clean out the garage and pass some things to somebody who can use 'em. Not everything's going, since I can still do warm-wat...

I resolve to get my cold water gear up for sale, so somebody younger and in better shape can use it! My shoulders just can't take the weight anymore.
