On my last dive in the PNW (at Mike's Beach NWDC Meet) Bassman and I were swimming along when I saw a dog fish for my first time - I was pretty "WOW'ed" seeing it head right for us in the water as we turned our lights toward it. Then Bassman hit it on the head with his light, lol. Ask him...

As much as I'm not really in favor of whale hunting, you should know it was not the Makah's idea to shoot the whale with rifle. My understanding from previous years hunts was that the Makah wanted to hunt the whale in the traditional way (harpoons and canoes only) DFW or whoever they secure the per...

Rebreather underwater time?

I've heard very little about rebreather other than no bubbles, and it scrubs what you breath out, adding in a little more oxygen. But I was very curious because the other thing I did hear was you can be underwater for a longer period of time (without surfacing) ? Just wanted to know the average UW t...

Rule #1 (for Tom at least) - When you leave your camera behind you will always see something cool. Therefore, never leave your camera behind! Wouldn't a better deduction be to always leave your camera behind? ;-) I suppose you could go there... but then nobody would believe me! And so far I've seen...

Those sunfish look amazingly cool. When I watched the DVD I have (IMAX: Deep Sea 3D) - that was the first time I had heard of them, seen them. I'd LOVE to see one in person sometime because of how bizzare they are.

Re: Langley visibility

While Keystone provided me with nice visibility in the last four days of diving there, today I visited Langley on rising tide near the high mark, it was bad. Under the thermocline at 32 feet it improved somewhat, maybe to twelve feet, but chunks of sea lettuce and silt floating all over the place.....

this is idiotic on so many levels Including the reporting. The whale was NOT shot with a machine gun. The whale should not have been shot, but they don't need to make sensationalist errors like that. We are sufficiently outraged without the image of illegal automatic weapons, which is a fabrication...

Small rock... You're kidding right?! That rock is the size of a freaking house! It's the biggest single rock I've EVER seen, above or below water. IF you ever goto Thailand, goto the Similan Islands. They had a lot of great boulder dives there... boulders much bigger than 100ft rocks. The best part...
