Re: Beautiful day at Keystone Underwater Park

As the others said, it is refreshing to read your reports, your enthusiasm is admirable. And you are finding great stuff to photograph all the time. It took me seven years to see Scalyhead sculpin cleaning inside a Lingcod's mouth and you already witnessed two! Not fair :) Keep up the good work. I w...

Re: halp halp my camera's having seizures!

I think the problem may be formatting in the camera. You should never use in camera formatting. Also trying to use an 8 meg card won't work and there is no need for one that big anyway. I would advise formatting both cards in your computer and don't try to use that 8 meg in the 640. At the time tha...

WOW, 64,000 clicks on Whidbey Island Critters !
Another fish color puzzle. Why would the females wear all the different colors
on the same day, same reef ? Fashion show off ? :)

Re: Whidbey Island Critters

Thanks. Yes, both fish had the same solid color on the left side while the right had the usual pattern. And they stayed together in the same spot. It would be interesting to see if they are there next time I get the chance to get to the end of jetty. And if they keep their "yin-yang" patte...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters

As long we are dealing with color of fish, here are some Copper rockfish from Keystone, which put on makeup differently, left side of face dark, right one more traditional .. :) The two fish staked their territory ... http://jankocian.smugmug.com/Other/New-Arrivals/92610-dark-copper-2S/1038906798_y4...

Re: Deception Pass 10/03/2010

Every place has its challenges. I think Greg felt the way I do, that with all this attention to Deception Pass, it might lure in people who are not ready for it. But then again, I might be wrong, it wouldn't be the first, or last time :)

Re: Deception Pass 10/03/2010

I agree with Greg. I dove Deception Pass when the prediction did not match reality and it can get little crazy there.
I am not saying that it is impossible site to dive, but the currents sometimes go up, down, left and right - all on the same dive withing short distance. So be very careful...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters

Janna, I usually don't see salmon either, this was one of the rare encounters, they were feeding on the snooty plankton. Well, at least that is what it looked to me like... The other night I noticed how the Longfin sculpins lost their usual vibrant colors and appeared dull. Anybody else notice this ...

They really like the area on the east side of the wall under the bridge. Just keep going, you will run into them. :)

Re: Deception Pass 10/03/2010

What a fun video ! I am glad that you finally made it. I wish I could be there with you guys, I try to make it every time the currents permit, but I thought that the gates will lock starting in October ( the park's website says so), I already had weekend plans which took me off the island. But I did...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters

Deception Pass keeps presenting - the Granular Claw Crabs which eluded me for years - I now find them on almost every dive, I am still enjoying them - this mama will hopefully supply even more of them for us to see .. After my first shot, she started to hide the eggs from me ... http://jankocian.smu...

Your pictures make it look like the visibility was so much better then it actually was. Looks like your new close-focus wide-angle setup is working !

Thank you for the compliment, I appreciate it. fish shedding skin ?

I know they are not shedding skin, in the tropics some fish create a cocoon at night but I don't know about this Buffalo sculpin. Any ideas ?
