Re: seattle aquarium!!! My new dive site

I've been a volunteer diver at the Oregon Coast Aquarium for almost two years and it is a lot of fun. Most of my dives are in the Passages of the Deep exhibit (http://www.aquarium.org/exhibitsPassages.asp?sid=2) made up of three exhibits: Orford Reef (200,000 gal), Halibut Flats (275,000 gal), and O...

Beyond the Blue Magazine

While I was searching for something else I found this UK magazine "Beyond the Blue." It has articles online about wreck, cave, tec and other types of diving that would be of interest to people in the club. I got a kick reading about diving in the fjords of Norway on a rebreather -- not you...

You just had to wait a couple of hours and Spatman and I would have kept you company.

Re: Health benefits from diving

Were you diving Nitrox? I've read of treating bad flesh wounds with a chamber ride (increased PO2 helps speed healing). Nope, just good old compressed air. I think it was the compression that did the trick. My guess is that the pressure forces the fluid out of the swolen tisues and back into the bl...

Re: computers

have you thought about a good quality non air integrated computer. if yor battery dies or the computer floods, you still know how much air you have. I don't like the airr integrated for that reason You could always have a hpg on your reg's second high pressure port. I have a Vytec with a transmitte...

Hood Canal viz report

My wife and I did a two tank dive with Don on the Pacific Adventure. Had a great time. I was trying to manage expectations with my wife (this was only her 5th and 6th cold-water dive) and told her to hope for about eight feet and expect about five. We were delighted to find 15 or 20 feet that opened...

Health benefits from diving

After Sparky's bad news about his ankle (sorry to hear it man), I thought I'd post some therapeutic good news from yesterday's dive with my wife. Thursday morning my wife was exercising and twisted her ankle. It hurt more and more as the day went on and she was limping pretty bad. By Friday she was ...

Re: Black Rockfish at TTN

Browns and Coppers are pretty common at this site, but it's nice to see Black Rockfish on the sunken cabin cruiser at Three Tree North. I've seen them here or there, but I've been seeing more lately and this time noticed at least 4 hanging out on just above the Roof, and they were getting bigger th...

Re: missing diver?

Two of the 3 instructors who teach at WWU are good friends of mine. If and when I can get some solid info I'll let everybody know. -Ben It sounds to me like this may have been an AAUS check out dive. If so, we can count on a through investigation and report. My guess is that the Walla Walla diving ...

Re: Another regulator question.

I would steer away from Posidens only because there aren't many dealers/places to get one serviced. And they can be finicky to service. Any modern reg works in Puget Sound at moderate depths (<100ft). I've used some of the cheapest and they breathed fine. Can't argue with the Capn'. You have to loo...

Re: Another regulator question.

If you are deside to do some ice diving or deep diving you can get a ruber cup and fill it with antifreeze and stick it on the first stage to keep it from icing up. I'm no regulator technician, but I'm not sure this is totally advisable. Has anyone else heard of this? Poseidon makes a rubber cup th...

Re: Another regulator question.

I've had ScubaPro for more than 30 years and they are a great reg, but not necessarily an easy breather. One independent test of cold-water regs rated ScubaPro and Atomic regs 9 and 10 out of the 10 regulators tested. Mares Proton Ice was #1. Poseidon Jetstream was #2. I got to say I love my Poseido...

Friday Harbor - Smallpox Bay

Hi all, Got back from Maui a couple of weeks ago and we're ready to go to the islands again. This time the San Juans. We will be in Friday Harbor May 1 and 2. We're planning to dive Smallpox Bay unless someone has a better suggestion. My wife finished her certification on Maui and we did nine dives ...

Re: Oregon Divers Invade Redondo, Club Dive 3/22

OK, you're right, if I want to do an Oregon dive for the club I should get off my dead butt and do it. If I lived in Portland I'd most likely head north: two hours to Puget Sound with dependable diving vs. two hours to the coast with iffy diving at best. I live in Lincoln City and work in Newport. I...

Re: Oregon Divers Invade Redondo, Club Dive 3/22

Georgia, which Island are you going to be on? I'm headed to Maui for 10 days on March 23.

While possible, a Redondo dive the day before I leave is not practical.

Hey, here's and idea, why don't we organize a dive for Oregon divers in, oh... let's see... Oregon!
