Re: Whidbey Island Critters

Your feedback, especially the positive ( :luv: ) is appreciated, thank you. The hordes of Sunflower stars at Langley Tire Reef never fail to provide some entertainment. In their everlasting search for food, some of the other inhabitants are not so willing to become the fare ... This cucumber made th...

I did ask the experts few years ago why some do and some don't have the spots, nobody knew the answer. :dontknow:

Re: The Hooded Nudibranchs are out at Edmonds!

I heard there was some discussion about what those spots might be. Call me kooky, but those spots on this Lion look a lot like eggs. Could that be what those spots are? Chenari, I don't think they are eggs. Here is Melibe laying their eggs, I am sure you saw them at Keystone, there they attach them...

Re: First time with DSLR in Puget Sound!

Great entry to cold and murky water ! With 100mm macro, Lingcod is a challenge :)
As for critters, my guesses:
1 Ling
2 Giant Acorn Barnacle
3 Longfin sculpin
4 Scalyhead sculpin (I think)
5 Coonstripe shrimp
6 Graceful Decorator crab
You are off to a good start, don't stop now ! :joshsmith:

Re: Deception Pass 9/4/2010

Great, so you made it, I was wondering if you will come to Whidbey since the original call out went silent. I decided to skip the Saturday dive at the pass since on Friday the beach there was already crowded with people casting hooks into waters I wanted to dive in... As for the Proliferating anemon...

Re: Day of the Dogfish

Nice pics. The dogfish are my nemesis too. I have yet to get a decent picture, the shutter delay is driving me crazy in moments like the one you describe. Which happen very frequently when fish are the object I want to take picture of.. Well, we just keep trying, right ? :supz:

Thanks. When seen next to the rocks, one can appreciate the size. I am glad it didn't decided to take your camera away :laughing3:
Isn't it great? Dive the same spot and always find something to get exited for .. Looking forward to see your stills.

Re: Whidbey Island Critters

Yesterday's rain sure messed up the visibility at Deception Pass today. Lots of silt in the water, about 8 feet visibility, little better once I got under the bridge. But I am happy to add another new critter to my list ! Granular Claw crab :) http://jankocian.smugmug.com/Other/New-Arrivals/9110-Gra...

Re: Whidbey Island Critters

Jan, would you mind sharing with us what camera, lens and strobe setup you used for that (and presumably a lot of your other recent macro work)? I am using Canon G-10 and Inon Z-240 strobe for most of them. Sometimes I reach for my old set-up, the Olympus C-8080. Since they are Point & Shoot ca...

Thanks for the info Dusty, it would be nice to see them little bit larger.. Dan, I found another tiny Lumpie near the rope trail between Pilings and the jetty, so maybe I broke the spell .
