Huhh? Where are you getting $300? I paid $150 for my 10Ah packs from batteryspace.com (gives a ~3:15 burn time from my 35w hid) http://www.batteryspace.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=4164 12.6 Ah - with suitable charger & shipping, it's ~$300, more or less. If I went sub-10Ah, I c...

the body is ABS PVC.. No such thing. It's either PVC (polyvinyl chloride) or ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene). They're two _very_ different, and chemically incompatible beasts. Which one did you use? PVC is strong, yet brittle, and it gets worse at cold temperatures. You can add stuff in the m...

So all the dexterity you would normally have with 5mm wet glove just dry? Did you use the DC ring tool to put them on? The Deep See gloves have better dexterity. Closer to the smurf gloves then the 5mm wet gloves, in my experience. You don't need the ring tool, but if you have one, you can use it. ...

Definitely some nice shots... it was as if there was a crab festival there -- just all kinds, all over the place, anywhere you looked.

I'm just sad not to see shots of my awesome hot pink cylinders with the built-in theft protection (so ugly, no one would steal 'em). \:D/

Make sure you purchase several intermediate fittings to install and “open” the hose for in between dive use when not wearing the drysuit. McMaster Carr is the place to order from. I have both "valved" and "non-valved" Quick Disconnects; frankly, the important one you have a &quo...

Good list! Seriously? You're going to Antarctica? I demand a thorough trip report with lots of pictures when you return. Bonus points for leopard seal sightings, free beer for pictures of leopard seals. Are you taking your rebreather? Yup, seriously. I will bring back pictures from the trip; we're ...

Man...my list is long, but I'm ticking them off...one by one. It's nice to see that most of my list is reflected in other's lists, too. What's interesting is that I'm really not a warm water kind of diver. Temperate, perhaps, but I prefer the cold. 1 - Antarctica. Doing that in the next month or so,...

Re: hood for a drysuit, what do you like?

Crickett will send you instructions for self measuing. All you need is a flexible (seamstress) tape measure. I measured while reading the tape in the mirror and the fit was perfect. They're also willing to make adjustment after the fact, if you need to. It will come a bit tight, but it stretches a ...

Re: Cold Air question

Even on a warm day outside, if you measure the gas coming out of the reg, it's usually around -4F or so. BTW - this is pretty easy to demo yourself... slip a reg on a tank in your garage, turn it on, and hold the purge valve down for a couple of minutes. You'll see ice form on the reg, even in warm...

Re: Cold Air question

Am I freezing my lungs? Am I causing permanent damage? Will keeping the tanks inside (60-70 deg) until the dive make much of a difference? How do cold water divers avoid this? The short answer is no. The rapid expansion of the gas from high pressure to ambient pressure induces adiabatic cooling whi...

I've had the Bare 7mm, a Henderson 6.5mm, the DUI "Warm Neck", and a 12mm Otter Bay custom hood (with a neck ring, like the DUI hood.) There is no comparison to the Otter Bay hood. It's the best "cheap" piece of scuba gear I own. Fits like a glove, keeps my head basically complet...

I finally picked up a pair of Diving Concepts drygloves from Northwest Sport Divers, and dove them tonight for the first time.....and I love them. They performed flawlessly, and it was a real relief to dive without a numb hand, and the stress of worrying about flooding my suit. I've been using thes...

I'd go to Curley's in Sekiu [...] AFAIK there are other shore diving sites in the area, although I haven't dived any of them. Curley's is usually closed this time of year, as the owner winters down in California. Be warned... They have a nice compressor, though, and really good ice cream! I wouldn'...

If you want to go a bit north of Seattle, there are a bunch of charming B&Bs in the Edmonds area. Heidi once got me to stay at one of them with diving the next morning at the underwater park, which was maybe three blocks away...sort of an in-town get-away, and there's an UWS right next to the pa...

Lost mask @ Cove 2

I went out this evening for a post-work dive with Heidi, and she managed to lose her mask before we got a chance to submerge. The tide was crazy low at Cove 2 this evening, so if it's there, it's in 3 feet of water or less - which is probably around 10 - 15 feet in a normal exchange...right about wh...
