Re: Looking for squid
We tend to find them around piers and docks with lots of lighting in the winter time like greg said. Always a very cool find.

Free Air Fills at Mike's Beach Resort
Mike's Beach Resort is offering FREE AIR FILLS when you stay at the resort located on the west side of Hood Canal, right next to popular Flagpole Point . We had a great stay there and dove around the clock, the water's warm and the vis is good! Its a great stay for SCUBA divers who are looking for ...

Re: Red Brotulas at Deadman's Wall (AKA Lobstershop Wall)
Hey! How did you manage a dive at les at 1 AM? Where did you park? For deadman's I park in the Lobstershop Parking lot. It can be tricky to get down the rock breakwater if the tide is low but not so bad at high tide. At les Davis, we just parked in the usual lot right at the water. I have never had...

Red Brotulas at Deadman's Wall (AKA Lobstershop Wall)
We were on a midnight dive on Deadmans Wall, AKA Lobstershop Wal l, heading northward to the less visited portion of the wall and came across several Red Brotulas, out in the open, ranging from 120' to 140' deep. Really cool find! Then we did a 1:00 a.m. dive at Les Davis and saw one adult at 55' de...

Snailfish video from Deadman's Wall
Check out the little snailfish we found at Deadmans wall, aka Lobstershop Wall , during a night dive. He was 60' deep on our way back up from the wall. I decided to forgo photos and grab a little video of him. Not great video but at least you can see the little guy swimming around. http://w...

Re: Clam Digging Beaches?
I'd be more interested in beaches that aren't closed due to red-tide. Seems like most I've seen have warnings posted. All in King County, and many around Tacoma are closed due to pollution. It's not true "red tide" but treated as though the beach was always under the effect of red tide. C...

Clam Digging Beaches?
Hey, with the great low tides tomorrow, does anyone know of some stellar beaches to dig horse clams and steamers? Does anyone have any input on an open beach where I can get both types of clams here on the Puget Sound within an hour or so of the Seattle area? I love Shine Tidelands (Hood Canal Bridg...

Re: New critter for me
Jeremy, what you have in your photo is a different species than what David saw. Your critter is a SIX LINED Ribbon worm. ( Tubulanus sexlineatus ) I was able to key out David's critter in Kozloff's Marine Invertebrates of the Pacific NW . (not many ID books show photos of his critter in them), and ...

Re: Found dive reel at Shilshoal Vertical Barge
It is quite possible someone had run the line out to connect with the deep barge or the Omar. Did you follow it out to the end of the line or did you just swim out on the line and come back?
Yep, we followed it all the way out just to find it wasn't attached to anything, or even near anythin...

Re: New critter for me
That doesn't look like the lined ribbon worms I've seen. There is not line running down the length of the body and the lines it has are very consistent. Are you sure this was actually a living creature?

The new map that Chevayea did will probably help immensely though! Uh... :uh: we used the map. Never underestimate my ability to screw up directions. :questionmarks: After telling my story I've had recommendations to start at the South buoy and head north for an easier find of the first rocks. I'll...

Re: Saltwater State Park buoys to be replaced
Cool. They aren't 100% required but will be nice to have while this site gets established in the local knowledge base. They mark the area that boats are not supposed to anchor, and the area that is off limits to fishing so it will be nice to have them back. Not to mention it makes it a lot easier t...

Wow, thanks guys (and gals). It's great to see divers doing so much to improve our popular sites. I'll try to get out there and create a new map of it once it is all done. I've been meaning to do it anyways.
Thanks again to everyone working on this.

Found dive reel at Shilshoal Vertical Barge
I was diving on the Vertical Barge at Shilshoal last week and found a nice dive reel with it's line run out about 200' off into the sand. No body attached to it so I brought it home. If you're missing one then please let me know.

Re: NEW Saltwater State Park dive map by Chevayea
Nice map What is the depth datum used? Ie. when you say 50-85ft that (to me) seems like it would be the whole reef up and down the slope but at neither a 14ft high tide, nor a zero tide. Somewhere in between... ps. As of a few weeks ago, the NW buoy was already gone. that is the depth range of the ...

Jeremy and the NW Adventure divers have been busy - and have created a nice new map for Saltwater State Park.
