Re: Question on GPOs & how they eat crab... (NHZ)

Yeah Rick, that is similar to what I watched... but the GPO I saw grabbed the crab and pulled it into the webbing "sack" versus what it appears the GPO in your video is doing by kind of projecting the webbing over the target. Very similar though, and perhaps same technique under different ...

Re: Question on GPOs & how they eat crab... (NHZ)

Actually, that sounds pretty close to being right. The octo makes a quick bite and injects some saliva containing venom, killing the crab. See the book published last year called Octopus: The Ocean's Intelligent Invertebrate by Mather, Anderson and Wood. There's a chapter on digestion that describe...

Question on GPOs & how they eat crab... (NHZ)

My parents are moving out near Port Angeles and I'm rather excited to have a staging area for Peninsula and Strait dives. In visiting them and looking at their new house, we spent some time in the town walking around and seeing what there was to see... and it wasn't much. They DID, however, have a p...

Re: Fly with or ship a scuba tank?

Bassman has seen a whole collection of tanks that have been confiscated for having valves in place. I recommend nothing at all over the end. If it's being filled with pre-blended nitrox on the other end, it's not a problem and doesn't have to be "O2-cleaned." I'd arrange to rent, or borrow...

Re: The Good the Bad and Ugly dives of Feb 2011

I'm constantly told of the Octo and wolfeels everyone finds at 150... 130 is my comfy go to max depth, I usually have no desire to go below that. Diving within your certification and training level is a good idea. They'll still be there in the future and there are much shallower places to see GPOs ...

Man, you've GOT to quit diving with that guy! Funnily enough, as soon as I noticed Koos' light gone, I stopped and started looking for him while laughing about this thread. I planned to search for a couple minutes, but after only completing part of my search plan (I back-tracked the contour ...

Nice entertaining video. I like how you were able to get the music in tempo with the scene changes. I hope my videos I get from Maui next week are half as entertaining. Thanks for sharing. Greg Greg doesn't care about your video. He just wanted to make sure everyone knows he'll be in Maui next week...

I'm scarred for life. Agreed - "NSFW" combined with "WARNING - NUDE PICTURES" would be a great warning... just let people know what they're clicking into before they do it. I enjoyed the pictures too, but I've got to say that the goosebumps really put a damper on it for me.

Re: Body found in Bag at Cove 2

that's creepy, alright. who would dump cremated remains in cove 2? BigFame's are... sprinkled on the honeybear. not left in a bag with a crematorium tag on it. Yes, we spread them on the bow of the Honeybear at the family's request. We did, however, bring the bag back. That seems very odd - I don't...

Re: Any suggestions for marking black fins or derlin caniste

The 3M Solas tape seems to work on jet fins pretty well, but only after you've dived them for a bit. At first there is a bunch of oils and such that need to come out... I'm aware of nothing that sticks during that phase. This said, I'm absolutely not an expert on this kind of stuff whatsoever.

Re: Cove 2 Changes

Question has anyone contacted the city or talked to the guys that maintain it down their about it. I have yet to see it but it sounds as if it could be a hazard for someone to fall and get hurt in their gear. I have some contacts at the City from past efforts like the fishing reel and the AED insta...

Ok. My last comments. I have more time diving in green water you have dives. I wasn't panicked, nor did I feel panic closing on me. The situation was bad, it was time to go. Was a line necessary? Nope. Was it a good idea, yep. Marc Did you actually read that whole thing, or did you find the Cliff N...

Training is dumb - you can learn anything you need to know by trial and error. I agree. I even plan on making us up some matching T-shirts. Just to make sure I wear the right one, you're Trial, right? :highfive: No I'm Trial, you're the other one... I know you are, but what am I? :lalala:

I tested the AP Valves one in my pocket. If it's accidentally "blown" while rolled up in a pocket or secured (tightly) with a strap, it will purge all the gas from the purge valve and won't inflate... er, "shouldn't." That said, I sold mine and have gone back to a DSS small one f...

I totally disagree, and I'm not trying to be a jerk but seriously, how could you possibly post something this absurd? Bob, I'm surprised you even have to take currents into consideration when choosing a site. Training perhaps, but I think it's all your experience. Once you get a feel for currents an...

Re: Sort order for Dive Site Listings forum

With all my Jedi experience in using the alphabet, I can't see why anyone would have a problem just finding the dive site they wanted using alphabetical order. Libraries have used it for years, and it just seems like sorting by what's new only adds unnecessary complexity to a skill that could poten...
