Re: Wacky Wednesday West (WWW) 10/30/13

I'll try to make it for dive 1 as well. I need to finish re-adjusting my SM rig for cold water. Anyone else up for practicing mixed team S-drills?

Re: Anyone diving with diabetes (type 2)?

I have type II, which I control with diet, exercise and medication. One of the best things you can do is loose some weight keep your blood sugar under control. Now that I am accustomed to my routine, I simply eat a good meal before diving and have a snack between dives. I also have a habit of keepin...

Check out the Bubbles 'N Suds group. Dives alternate between Edmonds and Mukilteo, depending on conditions. One splash followed by a second dive at a local watering hole. ;-)

CURRENT SETUP I'm 5' 9", 210 lbs. DSS Single Tank Rig w/ Medium Stainless Steel Plate You might be more comfortable with the DSS Large Stainless Steel Plate. That would lower and widen the bottom connections of the shoulder straps to the backplate. It will also lower your waist belt and place ...

Re: Regulator Advice

Your post makes me feel like I just woke up in the middle of a calculus class... After the third read, I finally understood it. So what I think you are saying is that in the end there are a thousand choices and each can be paired and tweaked until they end up in one very specific set. Many pros and...

Re: Regulator Advice

I also own both HOG and ScubaPro regs. Three mk25, one mk17, three G250v, one S600, one A700 from ScubaPro and two D1, two D2 1st stages, and four D1 second stages from HOG. I even mix and match 1st and 2nd stages between the brands with no issues. The rig I dive most often is a mk17 w/ A700 primary...

Re: Rechargeable battery advice

This seems to be the state of Nimh batteries these days.
http://www.batteryspace.com/csizeseriesbatteries.aspx

Most of the new battery development is in Li-ion. The new Lithium Manganese (IMR) series batteries have a much safer chemistry than the earlier ones.

Re: Long hose question

The long hose gets routed from your first stage (right post if doubles), down to your right hip where it is hooked under your primary light canister. If you don't have a can light, a holster for a pair of safety shears or similar will work. From there it is run across your chest and over your left s...

Re: SSI AOW!

Cool. If you add Stress & Rescue by the time you reach 50 dives, you'll have earned your Master Diver card as well. The SSI Stress & Rescue course, together with the # of dives requirement for AOW and MSD are the reasons why I switched from PADI to SSI.

Re: Wetsuit help

A 3/2 full is a good versatile suit. I use mine for local pool sessions, and it was also Ok for Hawaii with a Lavacore T-shirt underneath. For 81 - 83 degree water, you could also consider a 2 mm shorty with a long sleeve rash guard underneath. That would be lighter for travel. Silent World in Belle...

Re: Day Island Wall Friday 9/13

I agree you want to be hitting the water 45 min - 1 hr before slack. It takes a while to swim out to the wall, and you don't want to be caught in the ebb current as you're coming back over the wall.

Re: I need help with my dry gloves please

I've got the 90mm rings, and they don't seem to be stressing the latex cuffs. I undid and re-positioned the arm rings after the first two dives, and the latex looked fine. It is mostly wrapped around the large O-ring on the cuff and not subjected to sharp corners.

Re: I need help with my dry gloves please

I finally switched to a dry glove system (UTD / KUBI), and have been pleasantly surprised at how well it works. So far I've just used the Fourth Element wrist warmers and my hands have been plenty warm. The KUBI system preserves the latex seals, and the wrist warmers allow good equalization around t...

Lightroom is all about batch processing. If you set your camera to a fixed white balance (instead of auto), you can even apply batch correction to imported images.

I like Scott Kelby's book on LR.

I saw quite a few brittle stars along the north boundary line at Cove 2 today. They were around 65 ft deep and nestled in the bottom vegetation. After I spotted the first, I started seeing them all over.

I use their D1 second stage as a backup to my mk17/A700. It breathes just as well.
