Re: Viz Reports Thread

With all of the muck in the water at the local sites we ran out to Keystone Jetty Saturday and did a couple of dives. Vis was ok, about 15 - 20 ft. We found a juvenile wolf eel living in the pilings on the deeper side of the wharf. We tried to get a picture but he was a bit shy and we couldn't get h...

Re: Sling / Pony Thoughts on Use with BCD not BP

Hey Alex, I dive a Zeagle Tech (almost the same as the ranger) and sling a 40cf pony for deeper dives. Once your in the water you hardly notice that the bottle is there. One thing though.... The placement of the D rings on the bottom of my Tech wasn't right for clipping in the bottle so I ended up s...

Hi Norris,
Here's a guy in your neck of the woods (Marrysville) who is selling off all of his gear.

Re: What a disappointment!

Hey Samson, I was certified in April and my girlfriend and I went through the same issues that you are going through. We also purchased some gear at the shop, some used and some on line. After 100 dives I find myself in love with some of my gear, making due with other pieces, and in the market to re...

Re: Good crabbing?

From the WDFW site they have opened up some zones and kept some closed. http://wdfw.wa.gov/fish/shelfish/crab/index.htm I'm not super familiar with the boundry lines of the areas and the map they provide sucks, but here is what I can tell: Zones 1,2, and 3 - From the Oregon boarder to Neah Bay - Ope...

Cool Pic's Eric!
We were at Cove 2 Saturday morning and the male octo was completely out from under the boat. It was the first time I've seen a GPO out in the open and it sort of freaked me out a bit.

We'll drop by and say hello!

Cindy (scubadoobadoo) and I will be there but we'll probably be diving together. She wants to get out and practice shooting a bag which is a skill she's been having trouble with in Bob's AOW class.

Re: Dry suits....

I am not so worried about starting out in a wet suit, but my wife on the other hand I am afraid that if she gets really cold on her first few dives, will be very discouraged.... Something I would just as soon prevent if possible..... Does anyone have an opinion on a Henrys compressed neoprene wet s...

Re: Dry suits....

Ahh, when you said certification I thought you meant drysuit certification, not open water. As for getting certified in a drysuit, I would speak with the shop and see what they recommend. If you do the class in a drysuit you will also need to get drysuit certified while your in open water. Where I t...

Re: Dry suits....

So here's my take: Crushed Neo Positives: - Warmer - The neoprene has some insulation properties to it - Crushed neo is more hydrodynamic (??) i.e. it is more streamline in the water than trilam Negatives: - Its a heavy when wet - It takes longer time to to dry compared to trilam - It's somewhat buo...

Re: Does color matter?

I've bought gear from discount divers and been into lighthouse and UWS and cant say I would be a loyal customer of any them. I work in Bellevue and so Silent World is the shop I frequent the most. Good people and I trust their opinion on most things. I went into Northwest Sport Divers for the first ...

Re: Tank Options For a Girl

My wife also enjoys the HP80s, but there is one detail to keep in mind - those dives aren't deep dives. If we're doing a deeper dive, SHE still doesn't need more than an 80, but she has to take a 100 because I may need it. This is covered in the "Rock Bottom" portions of the links I poste...

Re: Tank Options For a Girl

Hi Alex, You've recieved some great advise from some great divers but I'll throw my .02c in. My girlfriend Cindy and Iown 6 tanks; 2 HP 80's, 3 HP 100's, and one HP 119. Typically when we dive together, for the first dive, I will take out the 119 and she will use the 100. On the second dive I will u...

Re: why do dive shops do this?

So what is the going rate to prep a tank for nitrox? Cindy and I are currently diving air but were looking to switch over and dive nitox. The original plan was that we would our 6 tanks dropped off at the shop we frequent before we leave for Costa Rica. That was until we got the quote from the shop:...

Hey NWbrewer! I assume you were the diver with the pickup parked facing the Silver Cloud. The guy with the spool was my buddy Rob. I was the slightly heftier guy. He knotted it up but probably needs to replace the line. It was strange that it broke since it was only the 4th time he's used it. Next t...

We were also at the Muk last night and as NWBREWER said, the vis was in the 20'ft range. Great dive until the end when we were almost creamed by some yahoo's in a fishing boat who wanted to check out what the big orange marker was that suddenly appeared out of nowhere. :dontknow:

We dove the Mukilteo Oil Dock last night for a crab run. Vis was 20 - 25 ft once we got away from the snot that was built up close to shore. This was our first time diving the oil docks. I have never seen so many crabs and ratfish in one place. The crab hunt was almost spooky and reminded me of a sc...
