Here's something different, if you've ever thought about diving in So. California, the kelp beds are great. Depends on the day but you can see all kinds of critters, sea lions, giant black seabass, schools of baitfish, eels, lobster, small sharks, bat rays, etc.. Here is video that I shot last weeke...

Re: Seastars and Scientists at Keystone Jetty!
Excellent!
FYI, I was diving in the San Juans this past weekend, glad to see and hear from the other divers on the boat all the stars we encountered were looking healthy, from what we could tell.

Re: Green Water Color Correction
Yes, my lights are appx 5500 K color temp. That's also a close approximate to daylight, so if the start of a dive, if I'm shooting at the surface, entering the water or descending, then my WB is close to what it should be. Or should I forget to set WB during the dive then its "close". Just...

Re: Green Water Color Correction
All good questions...I will take a moment to share what I have learned about White Balancing (WB) in the past few years. Whats going on in the camera, is your camera is attempting to define what "white" is. White to a video camera is composed of the blending of equal parts red, green, and ...

Re: Green Water Color Correction
Thats a tough one. If theres no reds in the light to begin with, its difficult to add it back in later. When I shoot my GoPro hero3, I tend to shoot in ProRes RAW,and I also bring a video light with me (which is returning reds to the colors), and I shoot a clip of a white balance slate, and correct ...

Re: Keystone Above and Below video short
Sorry for the delay in replying I've been out of town. Hi Laura, That was the only broken star arm that we saw on that dive. All the other she stars in the area actually looked somewhat healthy to my inexperienced eyes. I was expecting to see a lot more sick stars...but we didnt. Hi H2o. The surface...

Re: Keystone Above and Below video short
The long lens ferry shots are taken 1920x1080p, using my new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. This was shot to Prores 422HQ 10 bit video. (this camera has amazing capabilities, not shown on this gray day.) The POV go pro was using a Hero3 Black, 1920x1080p, that shot 8 bit Prores ON. The UW stuff wa...

Keystone Above and Below video short
Here's a link to a very short and crude video shot last week at the Keystone Jetty on Nov 10th. The day was perfect. This is just a mix of shots from three different cameras. I'm testing out a new video camera and some new grading and editing software as well and fine tuning the post production work...

Very sweet. I likes. Short n sweet. To the point.
Isn't it interesting how us underwater film makers get excited by the most interesting obscure subject matter. Something that the averge "joe" would ignore.. we obseve, and study, and film, and find beauty in... others would ignore it.

Re: Halkett Pt Cloud Sponge Reef Video Short
Thanks all for the kind comments. Yea, I was unaware of the biology of these structures until I recently started diving on these sites in Howe Sound and talking with Glen Dennison. He's a canadian that has discovered and mapped 4 such diveable "bioherm" structures in the Howe Sound area an...
