Re: Hellew!

Were you wearing an undergarment? And was your suit inflator hooked up or was this a trial run without inflation?

Re: Chartplotter/Fishfinder combos

Matt, congrats. It is a bassa$$ machine. I am using the Insight software and have read quite a bit about the Navionics. there are many mixed feelings about whether the Navionics are worth the price and many, including me feel that Insight is plenty good enough. If you do decide to spring for the Na...

Not much info but this sounds like it would be right up your alley if you're still looking.

Re: Chartplotter/Fishfinder combos

Update: after a lot of research I decided to go big or go home (relatively speaking). I have a Lowrance HDS-7 with the insight map package and LSS1 on order. Should be here Thursday. I can't wait :supz: By ordering them together the insight map package is essentially free, which means I won't have t...

Re: Need ideas for dive boat!!! Help me before the wife chan

Deck space, the "in" of the I/O hogs alot of floor space and doesn't make a very good tank bench as the covers aren't built study enough. Def. true on the smaller ones. Seems like on the bigger hulls thay manage to get the motor below deck for the most part. I've always envisioned putting...

That's what I was thinking of when I saw it. Especially on fishing type boats people seem to gravitate toward the outboard versions. Can't say that I completely understand why.

Re: Need ideas for dive boat!!! Help me before the wife chan

If you're willing to ditch the cabin, considering your criteria, those two boats look like good choices. The two stroke evinrude on the first one is probably an ok motor but you'll likely find yourself lusting after the four strokes. And of course that's where the big $$ come into play. A 150 HP Yam...

Re: Need ideas for dive boat!!! Help me before the wife chan

Scott and Richard know their stuff and their advice is sound. If you can afford welded aluminum it's hard to beat. OTOH if you need/want a cabin it could be tough in that price range. If it were my 20k I'd be looking at something similar to this http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/boa/2472587152.html ...

Re: Chartplotter/Fishfinder combos

Have you taken yours out to the War Hawk yet? The Port Gardiner Ramp is perfect for your boat! Actually I was thinking about starting a thread in the dive planning section about that. Since I didn't get to dive there last year and everyone seemed to like the NWDC Flotilla thing I thought about mayb...

Re: Chartplotter/Fishfinder combos

Too bad. My motor pretty much sips fuel anyway though. That's about the ONLY thing that I miss about the old 50 HP Honda that I had on my RIB! :angelblue: Well it's not the most powerful thing on the water but considering I paid less for the boat/motor/trailer package than a buddy of mine paid to h...

Re: Chartplotter/Fishfinder combos

The NMEA adaptor cable idea sounds cool, I wonder if it would work for my motor? (2003 yamaha F50) It probably would not work. Yamaha started supporting NMEA 2000 with their 2005 motors. "Official" support was in 2006. That's too bad as the fuel flow rate is very accurate coming from the ...

Re: Chartplotter/Fishfinder combos

Man, the more research I do, the more confused I am. Whatever you wind up buying will be obsolete in just a couple of years. Marine Electronics are becoming a lot like the Personal Computer markets. They should have a date on the back that says, "best if used by: month/day/year". A...

Re: Chartplotter/Fishfinder combos

Thanks for the input Scott. My dilemma is that I don't see myself spending hours or days serching for unknown stuff in my 14' RIB. OTOH, although I don't (yet) do 200+ ft dives, if I'm gonna drop a huge wad of $$ on SS then I'd like it to go deeper than 150'. I would find the down imaging screenshot...

Re: Chartplotter/Fishfinder combos

One of the problems I'm running into in my research is that all of the feedback is coming from fishermen, not divers looking to identify wrecks. Also most of them seem to be on lakes, bass fishing etc. so it's hard to say how that experience would translate to our environment. I've heard that Furuno...

The only thing that's really stoopid is drinking that coffee stout April likes. That sh!t3 will F*** you up! It's important to maintain the correct ratio of Peanuts to Beer to avoid the Narc. Re: Chartplotter/Fishfinder combos

The H-birds look reall nice as well. After reading about it, I think the down imaging could prove to be even more useful than side scan for diving, especially if you already know the wreck is there and its only a matter of identifying it. Side scan would on the other hand be better for "mowing ...

Chartplotter/Fishfinder combos

I've been looking at getting one that will serve me well for both fishing and diving (mostly diving) and am a bit confused by all the options out there. I don't have a budget yet, just trying to find the sweet spot where I get good value for the money spent. The HDS units from Lowrance look really a...

Just to be clear, doing the Diamond Knot requires at the minimum double IPAs to be DIR.
