Clear Lake, OR -- May or Thereabouts

Hi All,

Somewhere down on my bucketlist is a dive/camp trip to Clear Lake, OR.

This post is just to send out some feelers to see if anyone else is planning a trip there, knows someone who is, or would like to get together and dive it. I have time in May this year, maybe June.

I really want to do a longer current study of Point Hudson, Point Wilson, and Keystone.

Avelo Hydrotank system eliminates BCDs?

Color me incredulous. And skeptical. In fact, a whole rainbow of what-could-possibly-go-wrong colors...

Yes!!! Nice finds. Love the Rainier bottle. And "Hale's Honey of Horehound and Tar"?? Ha, fantastic. Talk about snake oil.

Ah, um, if you were willing to reveal the location, maybe PM me? No worries either way... :burntchef:

I lost at light at Ed's Fault but it was a smaller 2-C cell light with a clear case. Seems like the site is a light thief. ;-)

Re: BCD Recommendation

Many of us have gone to steel tanks (~ +5lbs) and steel backplate/wing BCDs (+5lbs) rather than vests, which takes weight off the belt or BCD. Beyond that, a weight harness system works well too.

Re: Thinking of a Blacktip DPV

Yeah the trim deal is really a non-issue for out of caves. I have had the scooter for a while now, and when I clip off the nose to do things the scooter sits out of the way just fine. I bought the 12ah batteries and have not ever even come close to depleting them. For the price you really cant go w...

Thinking of a Blacktip DPV

These scooters are almost in the affordable range, and I'm starting to consider one. I saw the thread where Norris talks about having one. This would be purely for fun for me, no tech. My only question, really, is how important is it to have level trim? The smallest one can be neutrally buoyant but...

Re: Headed to Cabo for the first time to dive

The diving around the islands just offshore near town is remarkably good, despite the crowds and boat traffic. Pelican Rock is swamped with snorkelers and boats but there's still things to see. I preferred Land's End and Neptune's Finger. If you have time and there's a space available, book a day tr...

Well this was a nice find in Port Townsend, a Hutchinson-style bottle with the stopper still inside. It says "Cascade Soda Works" and "J.M.", a soda company in Bellingham around the turn of the century. Somewhat rare bottle? Can't find many other images of one. cascade bottle.jpg

The Mola Mola Mission

Hi All,

I just got back from at 10-day trip to Socorro Islands, and now I'm jazzed to check off more bucket-list items.

Near the top of the list is to see an Ocean Sunfish, a.k.a. the Mola Mola. But... where? How? I need ideas.

Anybody know where I could reliably go see one?

Re: Galapagos liveaboard recommendations

I went there on one of the Aggressor boats. It was a great trip, but that was quite a while ago. Verify that liveaboards are also doing land visits. Ecuador has gone back and forth on that; currently I think they do allow it, but for a few years the trips were restricted -- either diving, or shore v...

Re: Hello from Forks/Port Angeles

Hey hi, welcome.

I'm in Port Townsend. There's some good diving here and across the water at Keystone. We also do Lake Crescent now and then, and on rare occasions Ediz Hook. Always on the lookout for more places to dive!

What to do with old lead weights

A friend of a friend said they weren't diving anymore, and did I want their weight belt? No, I have enough lead to sink a battleship but said I'd take it if they didn't find anyone else. All good. So this THING shows up while I'm gone. Crikey, I've never seen solid lead weights that big. What to do ...

Bummer. Likely due to contact with some petroleum product or solvent. Even something innocent like sunscreen might cause that.

Hmm. Sunday 5/9 at Point Whitney (Hood Canal), gin-clear to 7ft... then pea soup to 50ft where it opened up to 20' vis.

So pea-soup-thick above it was like a night dive...

Following up on the pistol... It cleaned up surprisingly well. Some of the numbers are still readable.
