Re: Hi from Portland - Let's go diving!

Welcome Jeff,

There are a number of club members in PDX as well as further south who travel through to dive the sound/canal area. We should get together.

Re: Greetings from Madras Or.

Welcome Nomad! There's a bunch of pretty active divers just over the hill from you in Salem using Salem Scuba as our LDS. http://www.salemscuba.com/ There's usually a couple opportunities a month to travel up to the Sound or one of our mud holes on the Oregon coast. We also do dives in Clear lake (3...

Re: southern oregon

Welcome to scuba diving and welcome to the NWDC! Most of the divers on this board are in Gods country up around the Sound but you'll find that the information available from these great people and this site will apply to your location too.

Welcome and enjoy the site!

Re: SMBs

Part 2 of the SMB question (at least in my mind) is whats your favorite reel to use with an smb? After reading the Original, original post - I went and bought a simple thumb spool to start out with.

Good discussion - Thanx!

JBL.. Is what I use ... A B Biller, is another nice gun... Dont buy a pneumatic, there junk.. Really? I've been using a pole spear and was thinking of getting one of the Mare's pneumatics on advice of a dive buddy. He's had great success with his; it looks like it would be ideal for crawling around...

Re: Day 2 Saturday Ft Lauderdale

Cool video, thanks for sharing - I like your write ups too. :supz: BTW, what was the black and white fish with the huge long dorsal? Although it has a similar color pattern, this is not a jackknife fish, it's a juvenile drum. Actually I have to correct myself - I've never heard of a "jackknife...

Re: "What is dangerous" - in scuba diving ??

I have already started my swimming refresher course and i am already swimming at least 30 feet underwater in one breath :). Initially it looked so intimidating but now i am really liking it. i hope that my diving also turns out that way! Oh sheesh - you have to know how to swim to be a diver?! Neve...

Re: "What is dangerous" - in scuba diving ??

As far as what's dangerous in diving, I think for now the biggest threat you face is probably inexperience. Get together with some of the trusty buddies on this site, stay shallow, take it slow and easy and get some experience. In a few months you'll have answered a lot of these questions yourself....

Re: DIY thread

Thanks guy's for your input. I take it that overdriving LED's is a no-no and its better to be a bit more conservative and be under the maximum voltage: 7 cells @ 1.2 volts would be max @ 8.4 and 6 cells at 7.2 volts would be even better? I'm also wondering if I should use use D's or C's, something w...

Re: DIY thread

Question for light builders - I bought the divelight companion book and have started a can light but am now second guessing my project. The build I started is based on a halogen 50 watt bulb, maglite head, D cell NiMH's @ 10 wired in series for a 12 volt battery pack (wow the can is huge!) I'm now c...

Re: My first movie

Thanks all for the comments, suggestions and (gulp) warnings re: cost. I stayed at Scuba Club Cozumel and while I really liked them, I hated the aluminum 80 tanks. The music was produced for McPherson guitars to demo their terrific instruments and is one of my favorite albums of acoustic guitar musi...

My first movie

Inspired by all the great videographers on this board, I put my first movie together using video clips of my recent trip to Cozumel. Re: zen moments

Funny but I photo'd my dive partner experiencing a "zen moment" last week in Cozumel. ;) Looked really weird watching him doing a drift dive in a "Buddha" pose: He'd drift along using breath/buoyancy to pop over rocks and then back down.
