Re: Reels
That's pretty deep to be shooting a bag, imo. I definitely prefer the sidewinder style, as opposed to an overhead handle. I have a Salvo 400' and Light Monkey 200' which I'm really happy with. I also typically have knots in my line, which is great for overheads. Not sure that's a good idea on reel y...

Re: dunking/rinsing an alt air
I've been told its better to dunk my regs when under pressure, but what about my Alt Air? Should I be removing that and dunk while pressurized as well? I think this is more about getting water into the 1st stage. At least that's what I was told when I was a newer diver. While I wouldn't make it a p...

Re: 3/31 Dive Whor'in NWDC style at the Muk
[ Meaning, as long as you're within NDLs you *should* be able to make a direct ascent to the surface at 30fpm, with no stops, and be "ok" (not bent). This isn't directed at you, Jeff. I'm simply throwing this out there for those who may be reading this, and hadn't thought of this. Nothing...

Yeah Jeff, the way I see it you would not get "piled on" if early on you posted a reply acknowledging "message received". The folks posting in this thread have not been ones to butt heads with folks in the past. My concern, and Joshua pointed it out already, so sorry, but here i...

Re: Grandson's First Dive
Great report, Peter! One my best experiences diving was certifying our nephew on Maui. It's an experience I'll never forget! ...is that a (not so)subtle hint that you're open to offers of all expenses-paid trips to Hawaii to certify people's extended families ? haha Not so subtle hint?!?!?! I thoug...

Re: SS Bunker Hill, or
I figured the cost including gas, other consumables, etc would be significant. That was the number I was sort of looking for. Didn't want to get all the way to training and kit purchase. That would probably be astromomical. Ah, I see. From that angle, its downright cheap. Trimix and 02 for my CCR c...

Re: SS Bunker Hill, or "Lessons Born in Flood"
Ouch. I had a wet deco on the Warren Car today, but nowhere near the deco time you had! Glad to hear you got on the wreck, and nice report! Thanks for the report! Please tell me you accidentally brought your old suit, not the new! Hehe, user error. I think my neck seal is still a tad too tight. It ...

Re: Team diving in the Florida Panhandle
Well, after almost three years of producing (very cute) children, I am dusting off the dive gear and getting back in the water. Being risk averse with two small people at home, I can't imagine doing so without getting a good dive refresher. Does anyone have any recommendations on instructors in the...

Re: DIR approach
It's good you are letting other divers know that you practice horizontal trim in the water, I do too. I try to be as flat as possible in training (repeat: In Training). However, if the agency requires perfect trim during skills as a pass (eg: the diver can perform the skills with ease in the water,...

Re: DIR approach
That said, I don't agree with the agency's that sit a few people in a room and decide what the best diving procedures are for the masses, and lay it as a firm requirement. As there are more divers, styles, and equipment entering the market, keeping a training agency modular, and open to the "S...

My advice would be not to do any scooter dependent dives until you're sure you've resolved the issue. It would suck to be stuck out at alki reef with a dead scooter. Or the Bomber :smt064 That was the Valiant, but yes that's how I know. The :smt064 was directed at Austin. He learned it on the Bombe...

White? If so, aluminum oxide, and a simple tumbling should take care of it to expose any pitting.Jeff Pack wrote:Inside.

Re: Gear Streamline Suggestions
I would skip the pony for some shallow dives so you can practice and focus on the clipping and unclipping the SPG from teh left dring. Its an aquired skill with dry or heavy wet gloves. Don't use a giant boltsnap for this or you will eventually end up double clipping with your pony. Try the medium ...

Re: Gear Streamline Suggestions
If I went with the Hogarthian reg set up I could sling the pony on the right but I am worried it could tangle with the long hose if I was trying to share with a buddy. Any thoughts? To answer your question directly, in a hogarthian configuration the slung bottles are worn on the left for many reaso...

Re: Side Mount Deco Bottles
I have no experience with sm either, except for pointing and laughing at CaptnJack. One issue that comes to mind that you may want to consider, however, is your teammates' ability to quickly clip off your bottle should they need it. In many situations you can get by without passing it and it's just ...
