Re: Hacking your Canon

From my limited knowledge of RAW, it saves what the camera sensor actually saw. Many point and shoot cameras, whilst creating a jpeg have in camera image processing that can add a certain color/light/feel to an image. RAW is more minimal and not processed, thus allowing the photographer to adjust wh...

Re: Hacking your Canon

With this work on my Powershot A640 ? Will this make my images Better ? It will work with your A640...http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/A640 I use it from time to time on my A570is as well. The great thing about this "hack" is that you are only putting it on your memory card and booting from tha...

Re: 3TN This afternoon..

Great shots, I like the grunt sculpin. I saw my first lumpsucker two days ago! and it was at 3TN. I always look for them, but finally saw one in 15fsw during our safety stop. There are a ton of octos around there recently, and at least one wolfie ;) Gotta love seeing the territorial ling on eggs. Th...

Three Tree Sat 02-06-10

Dove Three Tree North with my buddy Bpflu this morning. Viz was a good 25 feet and a beautiful day outside. Hopped in the water early and did the usual rounds of the northern "junkyard". For the second dive we went south to the cabin cruiser and spent most the time coming back in the shall...

Re: TTN. 1/31/10

It is a good break from the normal Alki for us Seattleites. I usually hop in the water and swim north to the house with antlers. See the "junkyard" then float/ swim back (depending on tide/current) to the tire piles in front of the entry/exit point. The boat to the south is cool, just not ...

Re: Single Strobe Positioning

John I would definitely attend an UW Photo clinic/class/presentation/anything if you put it on! I have a few dive buddies who would also love to learn whatever we can from someone with far more experience. I know time is an issue, I'd be willing to front some cash, or maybe work it out so we pay for...

FREE light at 3T

01-07-10 Buddy lost a wee little backup light tonight at Three Tree between the golf ball boats, we think. It wasn't on...as it was a backup light. It is a yellow UK mini q40 with a bolt snap attached. I figure everyone dives there a lot, so if someone happens upon it, it'd be cool to see again. Che...

Thanks for the report. I believe my three buddies and I ran into you guys as you were exiting, we were entering the water. I drive the white ranger and they were in an expedition. We didn't see any little reds, but we did see some nice GPOs, 2 or 3 further right. And my buddy claims he saw a juvenil...

Sweet pictures. Wednesday night I saw the same octo out hunting also! I unfortunately didn't have my camera with me. But both my buddy and I, who have seen GPOs out before, were very impressed with the movement and behavior that night. Nothing like we had seen before. And it was awesome following it...

Re: What's your advice for a new diver in 10 words or less?

Find a regular dive buddy, and stick with them.

Of all the open water classes I help with, lack of dive buddies is the main reason people stop diving or become once every two year resort divers.

Thanksgiving in Nanaimo

Returned last night from a long four day weekend in Nanaimo. It was my first time there, and it was wonderful diving. Went with four semi-regular dive buddies, and we dove with Sundown. Ed was very great, and made our experience a positive one. Friday we dove the Saskatchewan and Cape Breton. I had ...

That looks amazing, and incredibly fast (I thought the cuda was a rush). And it looks like he has a pistol in his right pocket... *edit* He not only has a pistol in place of his backup mask...he has an MP5 or similarly sized submachine gun attached to his rebreather. and I still can't get over how f...

Thanks for sharing. I like my pro plus 2 but am in the market for a second wrist mounted computer. They have my attention, and I am still anxiously awaiting...

If anything a couple minutes...

Re: Don't-miss shore dives on Maui?

Okay I found one of my maps that I wrote on a few years back. My other (Franko's) has gone missing. Up north by you, Honolua bay is a good spot for a day or even better night dive. The right side (east)is best, and it is an easy dive with turtles, octos, cucumbers, and lots of fish in the coral at n...

Re: Don't-miss shore dives on Maui?

Mala wharf or the old lahaina pier is sweet. Long shallow dive with swim throughs, turtles, and reef sharks. Careful getting in the water. Either tread lightly or watch for boats at the launch. Five caves five graves is cool. With more turtles and sharks. Uh and more that I can't remember the names ...
