Re: SS vs AL plates

Thanks for the response! I guess I should have been more clear in my post. I understand the overall weighting method stays the same, given the things you mentioned (gas at low psi, plus added buoyancy and added manifold, etc). I'm about in the same boat (plus a few pounds) between my singles and dou...

SS vs AL plates

Hey all, Question for those of you who dive doubles and thoughts on plate choice. I have a DSS SS plate with STA for my singles rig, but when switching to dubs, was pointed toward an AL plate to help shift the weight down lower. Or, because with steels you just don't need as much weight. The AL plat...

Re: Any Lawyers out there???

Not sure there can ever be a "for sure" answer as it relates to liability and law... Seems like just about anyone can try to sue if they feel they have a reasonable chance at it. So, probably is "probably" a good word for it...

Re: Any Lawyers out there???

If your dive buddy has an accident, your actions will be scrutinized whether you've had DM training or not. We all manage a certain amount of risk when we dive, and need to be smart about it. I've had some good training from my certifying agency, but some of my best training has been from just gett...

Re: Newish diver interested in BP/W, looking for sage advise

I haven't dove without the STA, but other than being a bit heavier than you, thats roughly where i started out when i got my setup. There's def times I've wanted a little more lift for comfort on the surface, but def didn't NEED it. From what I've seen, generally 32-38 seems to be pretty common arou...

Re: Newish diver interested in BP/W, looking for sage advise

Definitely keep posting, I can almost garuntee you'll find someone that'll let you try one out. Myself being one if you want to come up north to muk sometime after work. I have the hog 32 lb and SS OMS backplate with STA for my singles rig, and I'd be hard to find a better priced rig short of going ...

Re: GoPro Video Lights

Hey Bill - did you end up trying the light out last week? I forgot to look... excited to see how the video comes out! My setup is almost identical, but i need to figure out a better light source than the cheapo chinese lights I got.

Re: GoPro Video Lights

Hey Bill, how does the spot look on those lights? I did my own DIY setup for a tray with lockline and some cheapo chinese lights (one which flooded) but i had to do some messing around to get the light to flood correctly and not just wash out the gopro. They seem to be prone/sensitive to that. Anxio...

Re: Dive light better suited for the PNW area

+1 for a dusty light. Do yourself a favor and save up for a good can light now. you'll thank yourself later. you can't beat dusty's light for the cost. if you still want something cheaper, look into the DRIS 1000 lumen lights. That was my first torch purchase and i still use it as my backup now. It'...

Re: Got some holes up in my gearz

It was weird I was just diving along minding my own business when I heard what could only be the sound of a full grown orca. A moment later this seal swims by me looking pretty damn scared and it was at that time I pondered my gear decisions. All this black gear, I look like a damn seal too!!!! The...

I also saw one at mukilteo at the Geo dome actually, it was around 55-60 ft that day. I was very confused for a while... Thats me borrowing NW Brewer's Scoot and he was shooting using my gopro... but the cormarant came down and we had a little game of "chicken" before he shot to the surfac...

Scary situation for sure. My gut reaction too would be "he wouldn't have made it that close"... but if you think about ACTUALLY being in that situation, it would be a different story I think than how any of us would think we'd react. Some would have fought it more before they got that clos...

NWBrewer, Monk and I dove the Corsair last night. It was my first trip to any of the Lake Washington wrecks. It was so much cooler than I had thought! We got some good gopro footage between the three of us, but haven't had time to put a video together. I'll try and post something in the next few day...

WTT or sell HP119 for HP130

Hey all, Would like to trade up my 119 for a 130. Mainly use it as a transfill bank to top off the dubs these days, and the little added volume would be nice. Have a PST E-8 119, *edit* NEEDS hydro but due for vip, but should have that completed soon. thanks! Edit: Got a chance to pickup a set of sm...

Re: How common is deep air?

I recently had a conversation with a diver at the shop while waiting for a fill regarding deep air. He was PADI tech 50 certified and started telling me about his regular dives to 130-160 on air. I asked if he had any qualms about getting narc'd at that depth and I got quite the list of stories of a...

I've used those head gloves from costco with the same thoughts, and though the dexterity was great, the insulation was not. hey there - Hydro was just done at the end of last year on the HP80, but the AL6 is due for VIP. I didn't bother getting an "official" VIP this year since I was just transfilling from tank to tank.

send me a PM if you're still interested and would like more info.
