Re: Costa Rica 2014

Love the black & white images. Makes me miss the days of good old film. Sort of.
Have you tried using a B&W conversion that emulates an orange or red filter? That would work wonders for the sky.

Re: Helium and OC

While Helium is indeed plentiful in the grand scheme, most of it is extraterrestrial and locked inside those big thermonuclear reactors. Terrestrial Helium mostly comes from pockets on top of oil deposits.

Re: Need a womans perspective

The DRIS 1000 makes a good primary light until you decide to get a canister light. It's got enough light output for daytime use here in Puget Sound. Mine lives on my harness.

Can lights have better reach and longer battery life. Plus they are convenient place to hook your long hose.

Re: Visiting from SF / Monterey

Sure, there are a couple online lists if Puget Sound dive sites. http://www.pnwscuba.com/directions.htm http://www.theperfectdive.com/DEF-SiteList.asp Plus there is a list here in the NWDC forums with lots of good info. Shore diving here is very easy compared to the Monterey area. No surf or surge a...

Re: Keep it simple.

550 para cord is way too bulky. A better cord is Mason Line which can be found at most hardware stores. The braided variety is similar to cave line, but less expensive. It's perfect for tying bolt snaps onto SPGs and backup lights.

+1 for the OLED displays. I use a Liquivion Kaon computer backed up by a Xen timer / depth gauge. Brass & glass SPG - simple, reliable and not bulky.

Re: Where to buy a 5mm wetsuit in Seattle?

The 5mm will have the same fit as a 3mm, just a bit stiffer to pull on. If the store only has 3mm in stock, you could try that on, then order the 5mm in the same size.

Re: Where to buy a 5mm wetsuit in Seattle?

Underwater Sports on Aurora carries the o'Neil Sector Firewall suits. I use the 3mm full suit and add a Lavacore base layer for cooler water. The Lavacore really works.

On the upside, Maybe the SSI training materials will show more of the Excell and Quatro blade fins instead of the ubiquitous floppy splits.

Re: Fin/foot problem(s)

If you want to keep the HOG fins, you could try a different style boot (softer, thinner sole) or add lycra fin socks inside the boots to alleviate the chaffing. Unfortunately, the damage is already done for this trip. I have a set of HOG fins in size XL which work fine with both my drysuit boots and...

Great diving with the crew last night! The good Vis definitely made up for the frigid conditions on the surface. Good suds and conversation for the second dive too! Jeff, next time we make it out to the pontoon, I'll look for the second exit from that chamber. I like to practice un-clipping one of m...

Re: state park clay wall

I think the issue of shooting with a fixed focal length lens, particularly wide angle, is that it doesn't match your own visual impression of the scene. If one looks closely, one can spot the gunnels and red octos, and even get a glimpse of the extent of the school of perch. Naturally our own visual...

Re: For the shooters on the board

Very interesting technology. I'm curious how it manages to compensate for wind and mirage. Plus it's only going to be as good as the barrel / load combination accuracy-wise.

Personally I enjoyed time spent at the range developing the skill and mindset.

Nothing wrong with using most regs here in Puget Sound. The Mk25 first stages are my favorites for several applications. The newer ones have anti-freeze provisions, including a specially coated piston.
