Re: Fish ID

One other photo, this is better. It was about 3 inches long. Sorry it is not better - poor contrast.

Fish ID

I found this guy at Norrander's Reef today. Cannot find him in my books. Pretty sure it is a sculpin. Viz was absolute crap today 2-3 ft to 30 ft, then opened to about 8-10 ft..

If the trimmed belt will fit (6 ft, 185 lb) I will take it. Can arrange pickup in Portland.

Re: Philippines Diving - Dumaguete or Puerta Galera?

I have done 1 trip to Dumaguette and 2 to Puerto Galera. I prefer Puerto Galera for the diving. Strong second for the reef at Verde - I liked it better than Apo. I also had good viz on both trips, which were in February/March. Muck diving is great and that is really the draw.

Re: PNW Light Choice

Look at Dusty's lights. it's a can light, but is a better price and is a fantastic light. Made locally by a guy experienced in Puget Sound. My wife and I both use one as our primary.

My wife and I both have them and have a few hundred dives on them in Puget Sound.

Re: Visiting Seattle at the end of August

Hi KC. Your gear sounds like it would be fine for here, assuming you have an undergarment to go with the drysuit. If in the Seattle area Underwater Sports on north Aurora would have everything you need to rent. Check out the dive planning forum for shore dives in the area. There are some regular div...

Re: Wing weight placement: What do you do?

I have a ss plate about the same weight with a OMS harness. I use a 12 lb seasoft belt with 14 lb in ditchable pouches (Dive Rite, small) on the belt. My trim has been good with this setup.

Saw this sunflower yesterday at Les Davis. It was about 14 inches across, which makes it the biggest one I have seen in a few years. Also saw some wasting sea stars.

Found GoPro at Cove 2

My wife found a GoPro at Cove 2 this morning. Looks like it has been in the water for less than a week. Would be happy to meet at a pub of my choosing to return it. PM me with description.

Re: Bubbles-n-Suds Oil Dock Dive!

It is a public park. There were kayakers there when we were diving. Would be a good idea to have a dive flag due the boaters. Several people were walking their dogs on the beach there too. There is a lot of sandy beach that is much easier to walk than the one between the Silver Cloud and oil dock.

Re: Bubbles-n-Suds Oil Dock Dive!

There is another entry point available that is v. new and has easier access to the oil dock. Did the dive from there the weekend before last. There is a new parking lot near the Boeing dock. You turn right of 5th, (the light before you get to the ferry dock) and proceed until just before the second ...

Look at the post order at the top of the forum. They redid the site and this is a byproduct. You need to modify your preferences in the dropdown menu under your login name (top right).

Re: Solmar V vs. Rocio Del Mar vs. Nautilus Explorer

The only liveaboard I have done is the Rocio del Mar - did the 10 day trip from north to south on the Sea of Cortez last November. They did a fantastic job and the boat is great - our entire group had a great trip. I will be going to the Socorros with them.

Re: Warm water BCD

My wife and I recently bought Scubapro Litehawks for warm water diving - took them to the Philippines and Palau for a couple weeks in February. We both were very happy with the BC. Light, low profile, simple, and minimal padding, which limits weighting. They were also very comfortable. We turned the...

Re: La Paz in Jan/Feb

It has been a few years since I have been to La Paz to dive, but I did a liveaboard last November that went the length of the Sea of Cortez. I recommend Los Islotes for a fun dive with a large number of curious and friendly sea lions. We did 3 dives at Los Islotes in November. There is a hammerhead ...

Another vote for Dusty's light - an excellent can light for rec diving up here. My wife and I each have one. I don't think I could afford a tree that this would fit under. Only 1 million euros. And, it can be maintained by your yacht crew.

We did the Socorro Islands with the RDM this March. I can't say enough good things about the boat, the crew, and the food. And the diving was utterly fabulous. I would really love to do one of their long, boat-relocating trips (which it sounds like you did). Yeah, we did the long relocating trip - ...

Rocio del Mar Sea of Cortez Liveaboard

We had a truly outstanding trip on the Rocio del Mar live-aboard, traveling from Puerto Penasco at the north to Cabo san Lucas on the southern tip of the Baja Peninsula. This was the best vacation I have ever had. The trip ran from October 25 to November 5, covering almost 700 miles and 26 dives. Th...
