Octo Surprise at Elephant Wall

Went diving with Dale at Flagpole and Elephant Wall today. Viz was remarkably better over last week! Top 15 feet were clear; 15 to 40 feet were 10 to 15 feet (vast improvement over last week); and a good 20 feet plus deeper than 60 feet. At Elephant Wall, I saw a potential Octo den: there were a lot...

Flagpole Today (05 08 15)

Lots of sunshine and smooth waters today on Hood Canal. On the way down the rope - Dale and I had our first encounter of the day - a 3 foot wolf eel was hanging on part of the rope. He was quite friendly and swam around me before taking off and going deeper. The bloom was thick between 15 feet and 4...

Re: Viz Reports Thread

I went on Saturday night (5/2/15) and it was about 10 feet and did not really clear up much, even at 80 feet. I walked down to the fishing pier last night - and if anything, the bloom looks thicker yet at the surface.

I was totally surprised to see a PSL this time of year. It was 70 feet deep, just North of the bottle field.

Keystone Jetty and Redondo

Did a dive at Keystone on Friday and then went on Saturday night at Redondo. The viz at Keystone was a good 20 feet - nice to be able to see what is in front of you! Redondo was limited viz - even down to 85 feet. However - lots of critters to see and enjoy.

Re: A few recent ones

Nice pics, Yellow eye! I agree about your comments on the 45degree viewfinder! I've been using one for about four months now and I am still learning how to adjust for it. On the other had - I've gotten some nice shots by having the larger view screen and the ability to "get down low". Than...

Lots of Spring Nudis to see at Flagpole today! Clowns, Albus Dendronotus, Rufus Dendronotus, Janus Fusculous (a baby - less than 1/2 wide). And... a larger GPO walking around on the knuckle! Here are a few pics.

Great fun diving a Flagpole this weekend! Here are a couple of other pics! It was nice to see a stubby squid out in the open - a rarity for Flagpole - he was pretty good sized, too!

Flagpole on the Hood and Redondo

Went diving at night at Redondo this past weekend. The red octos were out in what seemed like record numbers! Stubbies were out and about as well. Viz was good - up to 30 feet. Today (Saturday), Dale and I went out to Flagpole and Elephant Wall. I saw a wolf eel out in the open - that a ling cod the...

Stubby Squid Color Changes at Redondo

Went for a quick swim at Redondo last night. The wind was quieting down - and the stars had just come out. One of the critters I encountered was a stubby squid that posed for a couple of pictures. I'm always amazed at how these guys can change colors so quickly! Day before, I was with Dale at Flagpo...

Hudson Point Dive this Saturday, March 14th!

Dive Hudson Point on Saturday, March 14th! The currents are very favorable on Saturday morning: slack is at 9:31AM with an ebbing current of only 0.5 knots at 2:23PM. Join me for one or two dives. Splash time will be right around 9:15AM for the first dive. If you have never dove Hudson Point - this ...

Sund Rock and Warbonnets

Spent Wednesday visiting the South and North Walls of Sund Rock. Weather was gorgeous - with very little wind. Viz was murky at 5 to 25 feet, then it cleared up to about 30 feet visibility. Visited the cloud sponges and found just two warbonnets this time (last time we found 7 to 8.) Lots of wolf ee...

I've got some time off work and would love to go diving. If you are available and want to dive during the day - let's get wet! I have this Wednesday and Thursday (March 4th and 5th) available. I'm open to anything from Sund Rock to Point Hudson to Keystone. Email me at keithboll@comcast.net. Thanks,...
